Once upon a garden there was a rose.

Roses during this time were just a simple flower. Nothing is extraordinary about them. They have no thorns and they have bright different colors.

A single rose so beautiful and young, pure of innocence and simplicity.

She only knows that she is magical. She knows that she could stand out amongst any rose from any garden. She is the reddest of them all if ever there is such a phrase. And by this, she knew she is not safe.

Someone would eventually come and notice how magical she is. She decided to change her color and turn herself to black. She filled herself with thorns and turned out to be the ugliest from the garden.

No one would dare pick her out of all the bright and lovely roses around her.

And yet one day, a noble and handsome man walked by.

He looked at the rose with passion and desire. His looks gave the rose a warning, she feels threaten yet she is interested and curious about the man.

She knows that the man already took roses and other flowers in the garden to look at and not to plant. She knew that this man is dangerous to her kind. Yet she wanted to be the one he picks. The young man would smile looking at the rose. A smile the rose loves so much and wishes to see every day. She feels different to this man. Even if she is at her ugliest she feels that the man could see how magical she is.

The man looks at her almost every day. The rose grew taller and taller so she could stand out even if she lies about her true identity.

The day that the rose waited for came. The man decided to pick her out of all the other roses.

The rose and the man were both happy with each other. The man confessed about his love and interest to the rose. The magical rose who only knows that love is pure as the little diamonds that falls from the skies whom she believes that came from the God above accepted the young man's love wholeheartedly.

She showed him his true identity and let down her walls of thorns around her body. She turned bright red and bloomed with grace and happiness. She admitted her reason for disguise and told the young man that she cannot love a human back as much as he loves her but she is willing to do everything she could.

The rose and the man lived happily for a long time.

But in this story, happily ever after does not exist.

The young man planted the rose for the rose to grow much more beautiful. He chose to tend to her needs and after a long time forgot about his. This is not the doings of the rose because the young man chose to do this for her but she is guilty that she cannot give everything back.

She tried her best to bloom and grow taller and brighter to make her man happy. Deep inside the rose feels the pain and suffering the man does for her. She is helpless and hurt. She knew that she cannot stop him and the only way is to repay the things that the man does for her, something she couldn't do from the very start.

Even so, she keeps on trying, growing and using her magic to do what she could do to make her man happy.

The man then changed slowly. He slowly gets tired from looking and taking care for the rose. He feels to have forgotten who he really is.

As time goes by, the man forgot to water the rose because he chose to be who he was. He did things that made him happy way before he found the rose. The rose now feels unworthy. She feels that her blooms and the things she does isn't enough.

She waited and waited for the young man to water her and spend time with her. The man would often go with her and spend time with her but the rose feels empty. She cannot feel the passion and happiness she once felt the first time they saw each other. The rose keeps on blaming herself. Little by little she dies inside. She didn't show the man that inside she dries up and rot. She stopped blooming much more and started to shed petals. She also stopped growing taller and yet she feels that the young man did not notice it. She did not feel special anymore. She feels like a burden to the young man. She knows that she would only hurt the young man if the young man would tend to her needs and lose his own self.

She now believes that she isn't worth it to be loved by her man.

Her thorns started growing but it grew inside. She started turning black from the little bud in the middle. She keeps on losing her petals fast and she grew weaker and weaker.

Even if she is in this situation she didn't blamed the man, she couldn't blame the man for picking her. She thought that maybe if she made herself uglier she wouldn't hurt the man she loves. They wouldn't waste their time and effort for a dead cause. The man she loves could have been happier with someone much more deserving of his love.

The rose keeps on dying till this very day. Shrinking, and dying from the thorns that kill her from the inside. But then she thinks she deserve this. And she is eager to let time fly so that her day will come and the man will no longer be responsible to look after her.

Till this very day the rose looks up every time at the dark evening sky, weak and suffering, wishing upon the stars for the day she'd see the smile she loved so much even if the reason isn't her.

And that rose is me.
