With a heavy heart and glassy eyes she took a step forward. Reaching out with a trembling hand she gently laid it on his shoulder. He jumped a little and glanced back to the girl. Her heart thumped painfully as they made eye contact. Without warning he spun around and wrapped his arms around her waist, yanking her forward and into his chest swiftly. The tears in her eyes threatened to fall any second. She gulped, this seemed familiar. With clenched teeth the boy tightened his grip around her small, fragile body. "Don't leave me." The words left his mouth slowly, his voice wavering slightly. He wanted to cry... for her. She stood still and didn't bother trying to move her limp arms as a solemn tear slid down her cheek. One tear led to two and before she could stop herself, she squeezed her eyes shut and cried. Her arms wrapped around the boy and pulled him closer, if possible. "I won't." She mumbled against his chest. He let a few tears slip down his own cheeks at her words. "Promise?" His voice was strained and uncertain. A small smile crept onto her chapped lips, "Promise."
~
Her eyes fluttered open only to be greeted by the bright sun. She sighed and glanced at her clock that sat on her dresser. It was almost time for her first day at a new school.A frown took place on her face as she remembered that day, the day she promised she wouldn't leave him. She never broke that promise—no—he did.
He disappeared without a goodbye. She later found out that he moved to a different country and she guessed he got a new phone, email, and possibly kik.
Everyone leaves in the end. Her eyes skimmed across those five words displayed in her book. It was her favorite book because to her–it spoke the truth.
She stumbled to the bathroom down the hallway and stripped off her clothes slowly while examining herself in the reflection of her mirror. She was ugly, disgusted. Her eyes blankly stared at each and every scar marking her body. Maybe that's why he left, she thought bitterly.
Yanking her gaze away from the sight she stepped into the shower to get ready for school.
~
After showering and getting dressed she walked out to the kitchen area. Her Mother was probably gone, she worked 24/7 much to her daughter's dismay. Her older brother no longer lived in the house, he went to College and bought himself a house with his girlfriend. Leaving her to have the house to herself almost everyday. Her stomach growled with hunger but her mind screamed at her to skip breakfast and just get to the bus stop early. Deciding to listen to her mind, she threw her book bag over her shoulder and walked out the front door hurriedly.
She arrived at the stop sign in only a few minutes, the bus wouldn't be here until 7 AM. It was six thirty. She whipped out her phone and plopped her headphones on her head; music time.
•
He woke up when he heard his Mother yell at him for like the one hundredth time. He groaned and ran his fingers through his dark brown hair. Glancing over at his phone that beeped obnoxiously...his eyes widened. He was late for the bus.
Quickly scurrying out of bed he tossed his shirt off effortlessly and slid on a clean one. Doing the same with his other clothes until he was all dressed in clean things. He grabbed his book bag and ran out of his room as fast as he could.
Of course, this was not a good idea because the minute he remembered he had stairs in his house, he tumbled down the hardwood stairs. His Mother stood there with wide, green eyes.
"Oh dear–are you alright!?" She tried to reach out to help her idiotic son up but he jumped up on his own.
"I'm late." He mumbled, knowing his mother would be angry, "I love you Mom! See ya after school."
He sprinted down the sidewalk, desperately trying to make it before the bus leaves. Unfortunately, the bus driver must have not seen him because she closed the door and took off down the street. He cursed under his breath and kept running and screaming, "Stop the bus! Stop!"
~
She pressed her lips together in a straight line and looked around a little confused. She could've sworn she heard someone saying 'stop'. Fortunately for the boy she looked out the bus window and gasped. What the hell, she thought.
"Uh, Miss Tracey!" She raised her hand and yelled at the bus driver. She glanced at her in the reflection of her mirror.
"Yes?" The bus driver yelled back over the loud teens. The girl pointed out the window and opened her mouth to yell that there was a boy chasing the bus but someone beat her to it.
"There's a cute boy running after the bus and screaming!" A girl in the back of the bus shouted. A few of the other kids laughed and pointed at him.
Without warning the bus driver slammed on the breaks and opened the side door. A few minutes later a tall, sweaty boy stumbled onto the bus. "T-thank you...finally." He grumbled and panted. She blushed a little and looked down at her hands, he was cute and he looked awfully familiar.
He walked down the aisle slowly and glanced around for a seat, a small smile formed on his lips as he plopped down next to the blushing girl. "Hi."She looked up and gasped softly, was he talking to her? "Uhm...H-hi." She mumbled back lamely.
He didn't respond after that—no— he just stared in awe. She nervously fumbled with her book bag zipper, why was he staring at her!
"Do I know you?" He questioned skeptically.
Her breath hitched and her eyes widened. Suddenly, everything clicked in her mind–she knew him.
"Jacob?"
