CHAPTER ELEVEN
Crisis Mode
After the long night Beverly had, she knew her morning would be just as bad. The reality of Teddy being dead and not knowing who did it and why was the big question. She had cried most of the night and her eyes were puffy and swollen when she woke up. She rinsed her face and stared back at her reflection in the mirror and she began to cry again. She forced herself to brush her teeth and then she headed for the shower. She had a busy day ahead of her and she didn't know how she was going to deal with the clients she had scheduled. She was going to call Amanda and reschedule all appointments for today. She was going to call Roland first thing this morning and inform him of Teddy's death. She dragged herself into the shower, and slowly let the water fall on her face. She was still in utter shock about Teddy being dead, and she still just could not believe it. Memories of them ran across her thoughts. She remembered when Teddy first started working for Gutierrez, she remembered how happy he was he was finally gonna be getting some money. Back then Teddy was clearing at least a G a week and still wasn't satisfied. The bottom line was, Teddy was irresponsible and that is what got him caught in the first place. He was so gun-ho on getting the money, he couldn't see the forest for the trees. He wanted big money and wasn't concerned at all with the loose ends. Beverly felt drained and exhausted mentally. This was really taking a toll on her. She loved Teddy and couldn't believe he was gone. It was gonna be a long day. She had to call Ms. Millie back and discuss arrangements, but she also knew it had to be done. It would have to be a discrete service not drawing any attention to unwanted attendees trying to find out who, what, when, why and where. Beverly hated the people that Teddy associated with, because they were all losers out to get whatever they could to make it happen for themselves.
Beverly's concentration was broken when she noticed her phone buzzing. It was Brian, his cute face filled the space in her Iphone screen and she smiled as she answered it. "Hi", she said; as she answered in her sexy tone. "Hey, don't I wish I was there right now, but the good news is I'll be cutting my trip a day short and I'll be back in Miami tomorrow this time, can I see you?" he said; sounding excited. "Yeah, sure, I'll be in meetings all day, but as soon as I'm free I'll call you", she responded. "Are you alright?" he asked; curiously. He could detect a little sadness in her voice. "I will be, I got some news that an old friend of mine died and I just feel really bad for his mom"she responded, trying to sound a little bit more up beat this time. She couldn't fake it, she felt terrible, but she didn't want Brian to think she was needy or whinny, so she tried to put on her normal brave front, when all the while she wanted to break down crying on the phone, while confessing everything that weighed heavy on her chest the last few days. "I'm so sorry to hear that, was it a young person?" he questioned. She paused, as she hated giving answers, and because she had become so private over the last few years, she was used to keeping quiet about certain things. "Yes, it was someone I was very close to for a lot of years, enough about that, what time does your flight land?" she asked; changing the subject. "I'll be in a little after nine o'clock", he said; happily giving up that information. "Well, maybe we can meet for dinner later", she said; trying to sound normal. "That sounds good to me, you wanna meet met at my place around 8?" he asked. "Yes, I'll be there, so are we gonna order take out?" she asked. "You just be there, I'll take care of the rest baby" he said; sexily. As bad as she felt about the whole Teddy fiasco, her body still tingled at the sound of his voice, and seeing him might be just what she needed to take the edge off. "OK, sounds like a plan, I'll see you then", she said as they ended their call. She pressed the end button and stared at her phone for a minute. She still felt like shit about Teddy and it was gonna take a while before this blew over. She knew she would have to take a trip back home and she dreaded that with all of her heart. She just wanted to keep her past behind her, but now it seemed, things were coming back to haunt her and she didn't like the feeling she got. She knew that this was not going to end with Teddy's death, she had a feeling there was a lot more in store, and she was just buying time. She wanted to enjoy the life she built, even if it was with drug money. She had long ago buried any feelings of guilt for taking it and she wasn't going to start now. Gutierrez was a dirt bag, and he had killed plenty of people for his riches.
