Two More

Derek was doing a magic trick.

He was quite good at it.

He could juggle little ice blocks, then they would disappear before everyone's very eyes.

Not that everyone was watching. Most people were just sleeping. Others were uninterested.

Amber was interested, though. For starters, she wondered how he did it. His weird blue eyes weren't even watching the ice.

Ben was nibbling on a carrot on the bed next to her. He was one of the ones that was uninterested. His eyes clearly showed that he was bored.

Then he picked up the paper and quill that Derek had given him this morning and began drawing.

------------

Axel's chest hurt. It hurt so badly.

Every time he coughed it felt like a fire raged in his chest. Sometimes it was an explosion with the aftermath of an inferno.

"Underleaf isn't far, right?" Axel asked, suppressing a cough.

"Not far now." Olivia answered.

Axel sighed with relief. Maybe the people there could help douse the blaze in his chest.

Jesse was brooding. Brooding over Lukas. Brooding over the fire. Brooding, brooding, brooding...

Yet her eyes saw something far, far away, in her own world.

Then Axel coughed. He had tried to stop it, but he couldn't. There was an explosion of pain in his chest. As he stopped coughing, the pain slowly faded away.

"So," Jesse broke the silence, "Olivia..."

"Yeah?"

"You do know that Amber has a crush on you?"

"...What."

Axel coughed, temporarily breaking Jesse and Olivia's conversation.

"Don't tell me you haven't noticed," Jesse laughed, "don't tell me you haven't noticed!"

"Noticed what?" Olivia asked.

"The way Amber looks at you. The way she just...acts around you."

"Huh..."

"It's kinda funny, actually. I'm surprised you haven't noticed."

"Well, unfortunately for her, I'm straight as a stick. I'll have to talk about it with her.".

Axel coughed again. When he caught his breath, he added to the conversation.

"Good luck with that."

-------------

"You're good at drawing, Ben." Amber praised.

The boy was drawing a pig. A very good pig.

"Are pigs your favourite animals?"

Ben nodded, keeping his eyes on his piece of artwork.

Amber could just see the paper from her bed. She could just see the drawing. She could see that Ben had drawn a small waterfall behind the pig. Maybe this was why Ben never ate the pork that Derek always offered him.

"So, Ben-"

"Nuh."

Amber was surprised. Had Ben actually...spoken? Sure, it hadn't been a word, but it had been...speech.

"Did you just talk?"

"Hha...hmrmm..." Ben mumbled.

It looked as if Ben was having trouble speaking. It looked as if he was having trouble forming the words.

"Ruh...ruh...beha..." Ben looked at Amber as if he expected her to understand.

"I can't understand." Amber shook her head, causing some of her brown hair to fall onto her eyes.

"Hahf...naammmm..."

Amber opened her mouth to say more, but suddenly a shout came from the bottom floor.

"Derek get your bloody arse down here!"

Derek caught the ice that he was juggling, looking flustered.

"God dammit Ryan, I'm busy!" Derek shouted.

There were footsteps, and then a boy with gray-black hair appeared at the top of the stairs...

Restraining two people, a small girl and a small boy.

"I found more bloody ferals!" The boy with the gray-black hair yelled.

"Geez, Ryan, calm down, yelling won't help the situation." Derek said.

"Get your arse over here and deal with this mess," Ryan growled, "because I have an Enderman hunting patrol to lead in ten minutes!"

Ryan pushed the boy and the girl that he had been dragging along in front of Derek. Both seemed to be as tall as Ben.

The girl had white hair and gray eyes. She was wearing some sort of tattered robe that might have been white before it had gotten dirty.

The boy had orange hair and dark green eyes. His clothes were unrecognisable, they were just filthy rags.

Ryan stormed out of the building.

The boy and girl seemed scared.

"Hrm..." Ben muttered.

Derek lowered himself to the newcomers' height and talk to them softly. Neither of them responded.

Were they like Ben?

Derek gave Amber a glance.

"Hey, Amb, do a favour for me?" He asked.

"Uh, okay," Amber shrugged, "also, Amb?"

"Give me a break, finding nicknames is hard," Derek joked, "okay, so I'm going to get them into better clothes one at a time, so while I get her into clean clothes I want to see if you can get a name out of him."

Derek gently grabbed the boy's arm and pulled him over to Amber. The boy didn't fight back, but rather scanned his surroundings with a confused look on his face.

"Sorry, Ben," Amber grabbed the piece of paper and the quill that Ben had been using,"you can have these back when I'm done with them."

"Uh...ehahhh..." Ben protested feebly.

"So...can you write down your name, fella?" Amber gave the quill and paper to the boy, making sure that it had been turned so he wouldn't write on Ben's drawing.

The boy seemed to write down a few answers, then scribble over them. After a while he settled on one name.

Lo.

-----------

I'm back. And I finally got inspiration. Woo.

Anyway...

Do people like Derek and Ben? Just wondering.

(Also what about new boy Ryan :3)
