Vol. 2 / Chapter 1 : "The Deal"

A/N the first few volume 2 chapters are going to be shorter. Sorry.

Flint walked casually, Chronos meeting his pace in his left. To his right, Flint had to try his best to not stare at his wife's beautiful features.

"So, tell me more about this guy." Flint asked.

"He is a mercenary. The exact opposite of us assassins, killers that will kill anyone without the bat of an eye. His name is Xavier Underfall, the second highest ranked mercenary in terms of kills." Chronos responded. He seemed very worried while speaking, but who wouldn't? It's not everyday someone kidnaps you're family for ransom.

"So the great 'God Of Time' is scared of a mercenary?" Flint taunted, yet somehow asking a question.

"He has my family at gun-point. I can't make a move without them being killed." Chronos said, waving to a nearby civilian.

"I'm gonna need more than that." Flint replied, waving as well.

"We'll need more that that." Cinder corrected, grabbing his arm.

"He's in Vale, near the docks. Or so I'm told. I'm guessing my information broker is wrong and that it's a trap."

"So what do you want me to do about it?" Flint asked seriously.

"I need you to find them first. I meet with Xavier in two days. He wants 3 million dollars, which is easy for me. He has promised me that my family will be released into my custody, but my instincts tell me he won't. He's not that type of man." Chronos' voice suddenly allowed fear to snake its way into his tone.

"I'll handle it." Flint said seriously. Cinder gave him a very annoyed look, to which he added:

"We'll handle it."

Flint walked alone, hours later. He was in a secluded alley, the only light available being a street light.

"You know, it's not easy to sneak up on me." Flint said to the darkness as he was nearing the middle of the alley.

"You're as good as they say you are, Lockryder." A male voice called as he walked out of the shadows. The man had blonde hair that shined in the orange light, pale blue eyes that somehow lot up as he walked.

"Ah, how could I be so rude?" The male then bowed, smiling as he did so.

"Xavier Underfall, although I'm sure Chronos has told you about me."

"Why are you here?" Flint asked.

"I'm here because Chronos is lying to you. Yes, I have his family at gunpoint but the reason is different. He also has my family at gunpoint." Xavier reached into his back right pocket and pulled a picture.

"That is my wife, Selina Underfall. The little girl tied with her is Celeste Underfall, my daughter. If I even try to save them, he fires the gun." Xavier suddenly dawned a very distressed look.

"I'm asking you, stay out of this deal. When Chronos hands me my money, we will also return our families. Please, stay out of this." Xavier stated before leaving.

Flint looked down at the ground, his mind conflicted by the thoughts. But one thing stood out to him. He'd never heard of the name Underfall before, not even when he was an assassin, so why?

Why did the he remember the family in the picture so vividly? Like....

And then it dawned on him.

Like he'd killed someone close to them before.
