Our world is one where only the strong survive. The weak don't get to live.
In the very beginning, there was one mitochondria. It split into two, and each of those split again and again and again. That was how our world was started.
The single mitochondria evolved into many different forms. First, the things that lived in the ocean. Then, the fish evolved so they could travel onto land. The ones that didn't adapt as the others did died off.
The single mitochondria evolved into the huge variety of species we had up until a few centuries ago. We had lots of animals: dogs, cats, lizards... It was the variety that made the strongest species able to live: the humans.
The humans ruled over everything... Until The Evolution. Animals stated evolving so quickly that humans couldn't keep up.
The crows were the first. They learned to mimic human speech and tone. The crows were the masterminds behind of the animal's actions. Their intelligence quickly surpassed that of the humans.
Next were the gorillas and monkeys. They learned how to infiltrate human society and took out our world leaders.
Eventually, the dogs and cats, our household pets, either turned on us too or were killed by the others.
The animals quickly took over our world. They hunted us for sport until humankind was almost extinct. And then... They bred us.
They captured what humans were left and forced us into captivity. They somehow found a way to speed up the incubation process of humans and bred us to be food and sport. But they didn't realize exactly what they were breeding: mutants.
The mutants' characteristics at first were small. Different eyes. Odd hair. But then the mutations would be bred with other mutants. The features became more... Severe.
Wings, tails, even humans with animal heads. That was the third generation. The fourth and fifth wasn't as noticeable on some. The fourth and fifth were more... Powerful.
Magic, some said. A gift from the gods, others said. Whatever it was... It was our savior. It was used to defeat our suppressors.
When the battles were over, the death count was too high. Almost all species went extinct. The humans were one exception. We survived, we prevailed. We were strong.
After the Evolution War, as it was known, people were drawn to categorization. We separated into groups of like abilities . A government rose called the Jury of Nine, each coming from a single group. They created a group of basic laws.
These laws became the thing we referenced, looked to when the times were tough. It was worshipped by some, just as the Bible once was.
The rules were simple: No murder, punishable by death. Everyone must be taught to defend themselves, mutant or not. Knowledge needed to be shared by all. Withholding knowledge was not a large problem since that was practically what stated the Evolution War.
The nine groups each had very diverse powers from each other. They were in seperated into two categories.
In the first of which were the Papras, wielders of plants, the Aquras, wielders of water and ice, the Changelings, who wielded the power to shift forms, and the Windries, who had the power to wield the air. They all had physical powers.
The second category is non-physical powers. The Flamos, fire wielders, the Environmentalists, who could change the environment, the Healers, who could heal, the Wheth, who could control the weather, and finally the Phyin, who controlled more physiological aspects of the body.
There is one more category that does not have a spot on the Jury of Nine. The humans. Whether or not they are actually mutated, as long as they don't have 'magic' as I refer to it, they stay with the humans.
I am one of them.
