A love poem

22 4 2

You were a rose, covered in thorns
Dull from afar
Sharper than knives
Nobody saw, not even me
Until I got closer
My guards let down
The walls I tried so hard to build
Destroyed
When you said a simple
"Hello"
Walls were obliterated and crumbling down to dust
Guards knocked out and out of sight
All I knew
Was my heart understood what was happening
Not yet in sync with my mind

This was no simple accident,
Falling in love
We later found out
It awakens a monster
Of feelings and self doubt
Feeding on confusion
Feeding on agony
The future, I knew was
Where he was looking at me
Like I was history
Maybe there was some kind of glitch in the system
Or a flaw in my programing
An error of hearts
Maybe it was just a dream
And I was given that dream
And I'll call it a dream
Because dreams can be nightmares too

In a sea of others
Each rose melody, different from yours
Perfect to me
Almost too perfect
Like the image of safe haven
A flower so small in comparison to others
But still my refuge
From my real world problems

We're constantly destroying
And rebuilding ourselves
One thing remains intact-
Those things we call feelings
You're perfect to me
Even the flaws
Especially the flaws
The broken leaves
A dull color
But dew drops still fall perfectly
From uneven petals
You were the one
I chose first

Your melody sweet
Spoke differently to me
Your interpretation of the sound of love
Was written by the strings of your heart
Exotic, and dark
A song I could dance to anytime
That resonates for years

Your aroma was
Different
I'd call it a mixture
Of safety and home
Glorious to me
I breathed it all in
Leaving nothing left to call those simple words

And I held on tight
But ended up in pain
The thorns were too much
Cutting deep
Making more and more wounds
To the point where I
I finally let go
Losing my smile
The one that you gave me
You said it could light up the world
But now it can't even light up a corner
Those once bright eyes
Full of wonder and curiosity
Eyes that once saw the universe
Now left with the dullness of a disaster

The only sane thing I saw
In that chaotic flow
People know as life
And saw the destruction
You caused in my life
A disease I got
People call love

A puddle of blood
An ocean of tears
A burning passion
A disease called love
Infectious but amazing
Something that lives forever
Left a broken heart
You've stitched up before
With your very own touch of
Care and reason
It didn't quite work
But no matter what
Even in the darkest parts of the shadows
I'd still choose
You

But this was just a story
Not much to see
It's one in a million
Probably won't even be known
But it's the best infinity
I've gotten to experience
It's my favorite infinity
And I'd live it all again
Because I love you...
