US SPACEPORT, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. OCTOBER 13TH, 2087

INTERCOM SPEAKER: Will all woman and children leaving on the first flight to Fenrir please meet at the terminal doors, the rest please remain in the lobby. Thank you.
LILY: Well I guess it's time.
DAMIAN: I guess so...
-
I rushed into Damian's arms as he wrapped them around my back and mine around his waist.
-
DAMIAN: It won't be long Lily. The trip's only supposed to take 8 days there and back.
LILY: You just have to stay safe here.
-
Dallas came close and joined the hug with his arms at our hips. He gripped so tight, like he didn't want to let go.
-
DALLAS (choked up voice): Please promise you'll make it to Fenrir, Dad.
DAMIAN: I promise son. Just make sure you take care of your mother for me.
-
As we ended the embrace, I glanced over at a Lola sitting in a chair with her headphones on, buried in her knees.
-
LILY: Lola, please come over here and give your father a hug before we leave.
-
Lola moped over and walked into Damian's open arms. He put one arm at her waist and one at her head.
-
DAMIAN: Lola, please stay strong for me.
LOLA: I will if you do too.
INTERCOM SPEAKER: All passengers of Fenrir Flight One must be in the at the terminal area immediately for boarding.
LILY: Okay. Grab your bags, kids.
-
Dallas and Lola both grabbed their suitcases and backpacks. We made our way towards the terminal area as Damian sat there with a body saying sadness but with a mouth saying it will be okay. Tears started to flood into my eyes as we turned and rushed onward. When we finally reached the boarding area, we where met by a woman in a blue uniform sitting behind a computer.
-
WOMAN IN BLUE UNIFORM: Hi y'all, If you could just swipe your ID here, and log in your children's full name and ages.
-
I pulled my ID card out of my purse and swiped it in the machine. It came up with my picture, wavy blonde hair, green eyes, long neck and my name next to it reading Lillian Witmore, age 36. I looked so much like my mother. Kind of scary. I logged in my children, Dallas Witmore, age 11. Coming up with his school picture from earlier this year, his hair brown and curly like his fathers, high and tight in the back and long in the front, covering of his eyebrows. His eyes are from mine. Then typed in Lillian "Lola" Whitmore II, age 16, her picture also popped up, hair dark brown and wavy, eyes as steel blue as her fathers, and high cheeks like mine sitting in a blank expression.
-
WOMAN IN BLUE UNIFORM: Alright, you're all set to go, have a good trip! Just continue down the terminal.
LILY: Thanks.
LOLA: Ha, the name terminal has never been so fit...
LILY: Lillian shush.
LOLA: Well you gotta appreciate the comedic irony of this.
(Walking down the terminal)
DALLAS (voice echoing): What is comedic irony?
LOLA (voice echoing): Basically when stuff is so contradicting it's funny.
DALLAS: Oh. (Under his breath) still don't know what it means.
LILY: Are you guys ready?
LOLA: For what?
LILY: Departure:
LOLA: Yeah I guess, we are leaving the planet I've lived on my whole life.
-
The terminal was dark, only lit by some pure white lights showing the way to the doors of the ship. We got up the door, hand trembling I pressed a green lit button, the doors let out a releasing sound and raised up. The chatter of nervous people conversing and crying flowed into my ears. A big sign strung across the entrance read, "Welcome aboard Da Vinci 16's first flight to Fenrir Space Station" in bold letter. I pulled up our ticket to find our seat number. Seat 66 D. I tugged at Lola's arm as they were marveling at the vastness of the ship. Insanely high ceilings. Rows and rows of chairs with large harnesses and helmets in the seats. I began walking towards our row, I held up the ticket for reference and there was our seat. But it wasn't vacant. It was taken up by a teenage boy with bruises all over his face.
-
LILY: Excuse me hun, I think you might have the wrong seat.
BOY: I don't think so ma'am.
LILY: Well my ticket seat 66 D, this is 66 D.
BOY: Ma'am please just find another seat.
LILY: Uh I don't think I can just find another se---
WOMAN (from far behind): Harrison? Harrison where the hell are you!?
BOY: Oh great here she comes.
LILY: What?
WOMAN (closer now): Harrison James! You come back to your seat right now! You're being a nuisance to these poor people.
LILY: Oh no it's fine miss.
HARRISON: Okay Mom geez.
HARRISON'S MOM: Right now!
-
Harrison stood up and walked with his hood up and head down to his mother. She grabbed him at the back of his neck and turned back on to wherever they were sitting.
-
LILY: Well isn't that something. Let's sit down kids.
-
As we set down, Lola continuously kept looking towards that Harrison boy and his mother. Eventually she stared for close 4 minutes, quickly turning around with a quiet gasp.
-
LILY: What's wrong Lola? Why do you keep looking back at those people.
LOLA: Cause she just brought him into the unisex bathroom.
LILY: Okay? What's wrong with that?
LOLA: I don't know.. It's just... Remember the bruises on his face.
LILY: I think he's fine, Lo.
-
A door at the front of the room raised. A tall man in an army uniform walked through and stepped in front of all the seats. A woman walked through and handed him a microphone.
-
ARMY GUY: Hello all, I am General Stanley Ford. And I am here to give you guys some extra info on this mission.
LILY (whispering to Lola): This is what we've been waiting for!
STANLEY: So, you have all come here to escape the deadly parasite that has overtaken our earth known as the Light, or at least to get away from your annoying step-sister, haha. (No one laughs) okay, so anyways, this will be a 8 day trip to the lovely space station know as Fenrir, currently floating around Saturn's orbit. We will be harvesting usable water from the moon, Titan. Using our mass filters. We will make monthly expeditions over there. For sake of what this trip will be like, expect most your time spent in the common ground of your section. Obviously, this is D, you are not aloud to move to other sections due to overcrowding. You are all in the high velocity story currently but you can move up the common ground up the stairs here and collect food there and enjoy the seating areas. But once again, do not leave you section, or this action will be met with disciplinary actions. You all must remain here in the first story during lift off.
-
As General Ford continued his speech about the expedition, Lola couldn't help but keep looking towards the bathroom, the mother and son had not left. A faint distressed yell coming from inside the bathroom shot into Lola and I's ears.
-
LOLA: Mom. She's hurting him. We have to go help.
LILY: But, Lo. We have to listen. I'm sure everything's fine. Why would they do stuff like this here.
STANLEY: But if you ever have any issues or need help finding information about the ship you can find help from your Information Networks Communicator, or affectionately known as your INC but other feature inclu---
HARRISON (from inside bathroom): AAAAAHHH STOP IT!!! HELP!
-
Stanley stopped in his tracks and looked towards the bathroom. Everyone in the room was confused on what was happening. Lola jumped up and ran towards the bathroom.
-
LILY: Wait Lola stop!
LOLA: No we have to save him Mom.
LILY: You could get hurt!
LOLA: I know.
STANLEY: Everyone please stay calm. (to the small microphone on his shirt, quietly) there's already a disturbance, get someone down here. Didn't know it was gonna start this soon. Maybe our plan will carry out faster than expected...
