Part 26 - Finn

Once I have calmed Rae down and brought her back to me we both go upstairs so that I can get dressed and walk her home. I intend to stay with her until her mum comes home. There is no way that I can let Rae face this alone. I have to admit it is equally my fault that Rae completely forgot reality, and for that I need to take the blame with Rae's mum. I am sure she will be reasonable, no?

When I am ready, and Rae has tidied herself up as well, we set off to her house. I carry Rae's bag. As we approach the front door, Rae is freaking out. I can tell she doesn't really want to go in, but we really have no choice.

"Rae, it is going to be ok, I am here" I reassure her.

"Finn, seriously, you don't know my mum. This will have scared her. I don't think she is ever going to leave me alone again."

Rae is freaking out.

"Rae, you weren't alone" I try to reassure her again.

"Finn, you are missing the point. The fact that I was with you, will not necessarily make this better. Can you imagine what questions she is going to ask?" Rae is now pacing on front of her house, hands on her head, freaking out.

"Rae, we have to face the music, deal with the consequences. We have no choice" I take her hand and lead her back to the door. She unlocks the door and enters. The trepidation in her entry is clear. I give her hand a squeeze. She looks back at me faking a smile.

"Mum" Rae calls out "Mum?"

She looks back at me nervously.

No reply. The house is still and silent. Rae walks over to the phone, taking me with her. She listens to the messages. She stands there for an eternity. I can tell that the intensity of the messages increases as Rae's body instinctively tenses up. I rub my thumb on the back of her hand trying to sooth her. Rae looks at me and hugs me. "Finn, you have to go" she says.

"Why?"

"Finn, this is going to be worse if you are here. One look at us and she is going to know we've..." she drops her voice and is blushing "had sex."

I giggle she is so fucking cute right now. I put my hands on her hips turning her towards me "Sorry Rae, but how would she know?"

"Cos, we've had sex Finley!"

"Rae, calm down. Why does she have to know? It is our business. To be honest, I just want to be able to enjoy the fact that we are an 'us' Rae. Does that make sense?"

"So we should lie?" she questions.

"No!"

"Hide?" she asks

"No! Stop twisting my words Rae. I am just saying nobody ever goes out of their way to confess whether they are sleeping with someone to their parents. Why do we have to?" I ask.

"Finn. Seriously?"

"Rae" I start, only to be interrupted by the phone. Rae picks up the phone.

"Hello" Rae says.

"Mum calm down, please. Can we discuss this when you get home?"

A long pause I can hear Rae's mum on the phone she is angry.

"Mum. Please. I am ok. I am sorry I scared you. I really didn't mean to."

I hug Rae from behind.

"When will you be home?" Rae asks. After pauses due to Rae's mum talking Rae replies with "Ok, so still tomorrow." "Yes I will be home."

She hangs the phone up and turns to me. I hold her tight. She is trembling. "So, I am grounded" she announces. "On a good note my mum won't be home until tomorrow" she sighs a relief, her body calm.
