"HERO! COME ON MAN WAKE UP!" I heard Steve shouting from the other room.

"Coming." I said getting out of bed. I stretched and grabbed my sword. I sheathed it and walked out of my room. "What's up?" I asked through a yawn.

"We have to train some of the newer guards today. The mayor came buy earlier and asked us to train them." Steve said as he polished his blade.

I sat at in the chair across from him. "Do you know who they are?" I asked.

Steve shook his head. "Nope, sorry Hero, but it's just as much a surprise to you as it is me." He replyed, his eyes never leaving his weapon.

"Alright, so when are we going?" I asked as I rubbed my eyes.

"Soon." He looked up at me. "Dude, are you ok? You have heavy bags under your eyes."

"Yah, didn't get much sleep last night. I'll be fine in a bit, I just need to wake up."

Steve looked at me for a moment, then looked back at his sword and continued cleaning it. "Alright, if you say so Hero."

"Why are you cleaning your sword anyway?" I asked him.

"Why did you clean yours yesterday?"

I shrugged. "Point taken."

We sat in silence for a while until Steve stood and went for the door. "Come on Hero, the trainees are waiting for us on the training grounds.

I stood and followed him out the door. It was a bright morning and the kids were playing in the town. Lily and Sophie waved as we walked by. Steve and I waved back and walked to the training grounds. "Do you know how many we are training?"

"One each I think." He replyed as we neared the grounds. "There they are now."

I looked at the guards we were gonna train. One of them was taller than the other, he had on a white shirt with a gray hoodie and jeans. His short messy black hair looked like he just woke up and his iron sword was in his hand. The other person was shorter than him. She had a purple T-shirt and blue jeans. Her long brown hair was tied into a ponytail and her black shoes were wet with morning dew. They looked at us as we walked over. Steve stared at them for a moment. "Hello, I'm Brine and this is Steve," I said introducing us. "I'm guessing you will be the trainees the mayor asked us to train."

"Yup, I'm John and this is Autumn." The man said pointing to the girl.

"John, I can speak for myself." Autumn said glaring at John.

"Right, well who's gonna be training who?" John asked looking at me like I did something wrong.

"Hero will train Autumn, and I will train you, John. Follow me." Steve said walking away.

I watched them go, then turned to Autumn. She was staring at me with bright blue eyes. "Hero? I thought you said your name was Brine?"

"It is. He calls me Hero."

"Why?"

"Reasons. Anyway, let's start your training."

"Not much for answering questions are you?"

"No. Now pull out your sword." She pulled out her iron sword as I instructed. "Good, now, hit me." I said standing a few feet from her.

"What? You don't even have a weapon!" She exclaimed.

"I know, now hit me." I repeated. She shook her head and swung at me. I easily dodged and disarmed her. She fell to the ground. "Your balance is poor, you don't have a good grip on your blade and I can easily dodge you." I threw her blade at her feet. "Again." Once again she came at me and I repeated my process with a bit more effort. "Better, but if you don't want to die, your gonna have to better than that."
