chapter 3

Ella made her way to the dining hall. The last few days had been uneventful, she considered Raymond a good friend and ate all meals of the day with him. Violet has been in D.C. the past week so she did not get to know her well. Being alone in the dorm room only made her paranoia grow.

When she entered the dining hall she was met with a sight of Violet along with Raymond and the rude boy she bumped into on her first day. They were seated on the far corner of the room. Despite being in the corner they were easily distinguished from the other students because of their model like looks.

She picked her breakfast and decided to go to the cool spot to eat . She did not want to interrupt Raymond or sit with his group, especially when the rude boy was there. She started to make her way out of the hall only for someone to reach for her from the behind.

Violet upon seeing her roommate in the cafeteria decided to ask her to sit with her . She approached her.

''Hey Ella''Violet said with a slight smile.

Ella turned around and muttered a hey.

''Join us for breakfast?'' Violet asked .

Before she could deny she was being dragged towards their table and literally shoved into a chair between Raymond and Violet, across from Dane.

The whole student body saw this happen with mouths agape. Most of the students in Fell University attended Fell academy and it was the first time that someone was invited to their table let alone was acknowledged by them.
It made the students of academy wonder what was so special about the plain newbie.
Even Dane or Raymond or Violet could not point out what was so unusual about Ella.

When she reached the table and was greeted by Raymond.
'' Ella this is Dane and Dane this is Ella '' Raymond introduced.
Dane nodded as to say hi with a slight smirk while Ella just sat there with a blank face.

'' Looking forward to get to know you '' Dane said with a glint in his eyes.
Ella just nodded and stared at her breakfast before digging in.
The rest of the lunch was spent with Raymond and Violet's light chats with a remark or two from Dane. Ella was silent.
Raymond wasn't surprised by her silence . In the week that they have spent together she has hardly spoken.
Dane kept on looking at Ella trying to look for any sign of emotion but she sat so still that he could not comprehend anything by her body language.
They finished breakfast and Ella excused herself to go to the loo.

Claire saw Ella leaving the cafeteria. She loathed her and did not like the fact that someone so simple and plain was breathing the same air as her, let alone sitting with people that didn't even notice her . So to prove her social superiority approached her .

The next things went by in a blur.
Claire took a hold of Ella's shoulder and turned her around stomping her pencil heel on Ella's foot and then pushed her with enough force to make her fall backwards , scratching her side with the edge of the marble table in the process.

Now, Claire wasn't someone to mess with . Her good looks could not concealed the demon she was from inside. She was one who shall not be underestimated, considering the fact that seven students have left the Fell academy and university because of her behavior towards them . No one could ever find any proof that Claire was responsible for it but everyone just knew.

''You look good at the place where you belong , my feet'' with that said Claire started walking away only to be stopped by a rough hand pulling her leg. She turned around and saw Ella had pulled herself up with the support of her leg.
''Thanks for the help.'' Ella taunted . Before Claire could approach her again she was met with someone she did want to get on a bad side with,Violet.

''You made this mistake once , I'm only letting you be because this will be the last time you will do this.'' Violet raised an eyebrow, like she was challenging Claire to utter one more word.

The drama ended after that . Everybody resumed what they were doing earlier.
Ella was dragged by Raymond to the infirmary. Turns out her foot was fine but she was sporting a nasty bruise on her side.

Dane went to the daycare center owned by her aunt. The temperature had considerably fallen.
He greeted his aunt with a kiss on the cheek and handed her some snacks. The day had been busy and she missed lunch . He was asked to look after the children for a while and he obliged.

He went and started keeping a watch on the children. While looking around he saw there was a little girl who he had not encountered before. She wasn't playing with anybody just sitting in a corner on a bean bag with a sweet in her hand.

When he approached her , he noticed that her lips were trembling like she would cry anytime. He knelt down in front of her and gave her a smile . The little girl upon seeing him smile , immediately smiled back through her tears. The sight was heart wrenching.

He dabbed his thumb on her cheek where a lone tear had been.

''Are you a strong girl ?'' He asked .
She quickly nodded.

''Then why are you crying?"

In a small voice she replied.
"Because I miss Claudette''

"But if you are a strong girl like you said you shouldn't be crying, no matter what"

She immediately stopped crying and punched Dane in the face. He didn't expect it .

"Now you know that I'm strong.'' She said.

''Yes you are. But never ever do that again.''

''But why'' she asked confused.

''Because it is a very bad thing'' he said .

The little girl realised her mistake and quickly apologized.
