Sitting in the back seat of the car, all I can think of is how it only takes one day and one accident for your whole entire life to change. Now some people may think that I am over-reacting or how not your whole life doesn’t changes but for me, it did.

That day still haunts my mind like it happened yesterday, probably because it did happen yesterday but I can't get the images out of my head and no matter how much I don't want to or how much I am going to regret it, I go back to my memory of yesterday, recapping everything that happened

*Flashback*

I could hear them downstairs yelling at each other, it has been going on for days now, I’m surprised the neighbours haven’t called the police yet. It has always been like this, you see my dad had some major anger issues and a drinking problem. He always took the anger out on my mother, she always tries to fight back but my father is stronger and the alcohol does not help either.

Where do I stay in all this you ask? well I stay in my room upstairs like a coward. I hate what my father is doing but I am too coward to do anything about it so I stay in my room praying for my mother’s safety.

Most of the times the fight isn’t too serious just a lot of shouting and then my father passes out from the alcohol but today it’s bad. There has been a lot of shouting, glass shattering and occasionally cries of pain from my mother which can not be good.

Just as I thought it couldn’t get worse I hear the sound of feet stomping on the stairs making their way upstairs. I start hyperventilating as the stomping gets louder, and I make a mad rush for the closet, my sanctuary.

I slide down the cold, smooth wall as I peep through the slight crack through the doors to find two feet in the middle of the room. I keep praying that the feet will walk away but sadly they start making their way towards me.

My heart starts beating a hundred miles per hour and I start shaking as the feet gets closer and closer to me. I cover my mouth with my shaking hands to muffle the sounds that are coming from my mouth.

After hours (actually it has only been a minute) of dead silence, I removed my hands from my mouth thinking that the person must of left only to have the closet doors ripped open revealing the owner of the feet staring down at me.

I let out a massive breath I didn’t know I was holding at the sight of my mum standing there and I run up to her and hug her tears running down my face.

I know what you’re thinking, what a baby but you don’t understand, my mother and I have always been close, we did everything together, she was like my best friend and it killed me seeing her like this

. Her beautiful blonde hair was all tangled, her eyes that usually shined a beautiful blue colour was now filled with pain and fear, you could see tear stains running down her cheek and she had bruises forming all over her face.

“Bethany honey, I need you to pack your bag  and go downstairs, we are going to be staying at a friend of mine’s for the night, everything is going to be alright” my mum soothingly whispers into my ear as she strokes my hair but it sounded like she was trying to convince herself more than me.

That was all she said before she leaves the room letting me pack my bag.

I am just about finished packing my bag when I hear my dad’s voice and it seems like he is calling someone. I stop what I am doing and try to listen to what he is saying, at first all I hear is mumbling but then it’s like a time bomb went off and the whole house is filled with my drunk dad’s angry yelling.
