"Hey, I'm-"
"Sh, this is the best part!"
"Oh, sorry, I'll just put my bags-"
"Shh!"
Okay, so maybe I handled that wrong. What else was I supposed to do, the guy was gorgeous and I didn't want to look at him.
The movie I was watching, (that, I admit, I've seen way too many times) starts to play the ending scene and I know that soon I'll have to face the hotness standing behind me.
The credits roll and I turn around slowly, only to see the back of the dude.
I cough, and he turns around. "Hey, sorry I was rude, I just love this movie. I'm Maria. Maria Reynolds."
"Oh, it's quite alright, I actually like that movie myself. Monty Python, right?"
"Yeah actually, I've never met anyone else who likes it."
"Me too! It's so funny, yet none of my old friends- I mean, classmates, liked it!!"
"Right!?" I exclaim, none of the guys or even the sisters like it.
The two of us sit in silence for a few painfully awkward seconds before I chose to speak.
"Hey, I actually have-" I begin to say, just as the boy says "My name is-"
I smile and say "you first."
"Oh, okay. My name is Alexander Hamilton."
"Nice to meet you, Alex. Can I call you Alex?"
He shrugs, so I take it as a yes. The boy is honestly too attractive. It's like there's one giant bucket of hotness sitting around that they dump on babies, and the people in charge of that process got really lazy and dumped the entire bucket on him. He is a creature made by the Gods above.
He has long hair, (I'm assuming it's long seeing as it's tied in a ponytail) gorgeous eyes, and amazing posture. He can't be taller than 5'6 or 5'7, and I pretty much tower over him.
Only after my thoughts have been running for about two minutes do I realize that I've been staring at the boy for about, let's see, two minutes.
"I, um, sorry. I got, um, distracted."
He blushes and looks down, asking, "what were you going to say earlier?"
"Oh, right. I have the second Monty Python movie, I mean, if you wanted to watch it with me? I could even get you a beer." God, I sound so desperate.
"Um, I'm really tired, sorry, long drive, but maybe tomorrow? We do have four years together..."
"Oh, duh!! Of course, you're tired, everyone is! Tomorrow is okay, sure. But, I'm actually a sophomore. So three years, unless I don't graduate on time. Which could happen? I mean, it's not like I'm failing or anything but let's just say my grades weren't the best last year. Sorry, you probably don't want to know about that. It's just that you got here later than I thought and I was really worried that you'd be horrible and-"
"Maria."
Crap. "Sorry, I ramble a lot."
"It's fine, I have weird things about me too. Don't apologize all the time!"
"Oh, sorry!" Crap. "I'm going to stop talking now."
Alex laughs, the sound of which makes me genuinely smile.
"Well, I'm just gonna sleep now. And, for your information, I'm more of a wine guy." He laughs again, then walks into the connecting bathroom between our two rooms.
"Goodnight Maria."
"Night."
-the next morning-
"Eliza, you wouldn't believe it. He's sweet, hot, smart, funny, hot, hot, and did I mention hot? Oh, and he's hot." I take another sip of my coffee as I wait for Eliza's reply.
She sets down her non-fat, non-sugar, non-whipped cream, non-deliciousness frappe to respond with, "I think you forgot hot."
I giggle and say, "that's true. We're watching a movie later, but do you think it means anything, or is it just two roommates casually hanging out?"
"Oo, what movie? The Notebook? Titanic??"
"Um, no, it's Monty Python."
"Ugh, Eliza, not this again. You cannot ruin another perfectly good relationship with that movie that should not exist."
"Okay, first off, it only ruined like, three relationships. That's less than the ones you're ruined with your weird addiction to One Direction. Last time I've checked, that was at, what? Seven, eight relationships? And second, we bonded over Monty Python. He likes it too, see, no relationship ruining going on here."
"Fine, I will let you two live out your obsession, but only because you brought up One Direction and now is the perfect time to rant about them."
"And now is my perfect time to excuse myself, bye Liz! Thanks for the coffee!" Following my words, I grab my half-finished coffee and my bag and wave goodbye to Eliza as I walk out of the small shop.
I slowly walk back through the campus towards my dorm. I purposefully met Eliza early so that I wouldn't have to face Alex, and now I'm hoping that by the time I get back he'll be out with people.
Oh, who am I kidding? The poor kid just moved here, he doesn't know anyone except for me. I should just go right in and talk to him.
I nod to myself and then push open the door to our room. Alex is sitting on the couch in my room, his head stuffed into his knees.
"Hey, sorry for leaving that early, I met one of my friends for- Wait, Alex, are you crying?" I hear faint sniffles coming from him, and then a small, "no" is croaked out.
"Alex, lift your head up."
He does as I ask, and pulls his head out of his knees, causing me to gasp.
"Alex! What happened?? Who did this?" His face, oh, his beautiful face. He's bruised under both eyes and he has scrapes everywhere. My mind is so busy taking in his broken face and the tears streaming from his gorgeous eyes that I don't even notice his shirt, or should I say lack thereof.
"I, um, thought it would be a, uh, a good idea to," he takes a shaky breath and blinks a few times before continuing, "I thought it would be a good idea to go on a walk, uh, around campus, and I kind of got into a fight with a, uh, a guy named, I think it was James."
"What did he look like? There are a lot of James' on campus." I think I know who this James was, and I'm trying hard to not scream.
"I, uh, I don't remember. He was talking about how I needed to stay away from, uh, you, and I told him that we were watching a movie later and he just, um, kind of started punching me and then he, uh, pushed me over and kicked me a few times. I'm fine, really."
"Alex, you're obviously not fine. That guy, he's my ex-boyfriend. He thinks that we're still together, even though I've told him countless times that we were done. He just won't let up, I'll talk to him tomorrow."
"Aren't you scared of him?"
"Of course I am. But he hurt one of my friends, and I can't allow that."
In about two seconds, Alex's face changed from smiling to frowning. He got up suddenly and said, "I, uh, I need to go get some stuff."
I sat there, useless, as he put a shirt on and then left. I waited, the hope that he would be returning anytime soon draining quickly.
"Why is this so confusing? I just met you, damn it Alex."
