I was on my bed, my parents talking to me for the fifth time this month. At this point their words blended together in a cloud of noise that was lost in the air. I didn't care to listen to what they had to say. I knew it would never affect me . I was picking at my nails while they spoke, a nervous tick I guess. I've always done it when I'm stressed out or nervous. I hear my name in an annoyed tone in the cloud of noise, "Ava!"
I snapped into attention, my eyes focused on the slightly annoyed and concerned faces of my parents. "Ava please listen to us, we want to help you, but we can't if you lock us out," my mom said in a stern but caring voice. She held my shoulder tight and gave me a slight smile. I seemed to pause in the moment and smiled back . My mom barley smiled in the past months. I wanted to save this moment, save her smile. Pause this moment forever.
