Anne

“HEY RAY!” I heard a girl voice call me. I turned around to see Anne Bursnell running toward me, and she was the third to last person I wanted to see now.

“Oh, great I finally found you! So about the play, if you forgot it is in two days. So, I doubt I’ll get sick or anything by then.”

Yeah, this is the girl I was talking about. I’m her understudying for the play, but there is a reason I freaked out before. This chick always gets sick, especially when this exact event occurs. It happens every bloody year, and I’m not sure how she still passes every year.

I rolled my eyes and just signed. “Whatever you say Anne.”

“Sweet! I knew you wouldn’t give me any lip like all these other tossers he eh?” She said with great confidence, as if she’s planning to attend the play. “Oh yeah, Anne I don’t want to prejudge you or anything.” I said with a hint of sarcasm, but I don’t think she picked that up.

“That’s wicked Ray. Well anyways, have you heard of any news lately?” Anne slid a little closer to me.

“Um…I’m sorry Anne, but I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I said slowly, because Anne is the type to be quite oblivious to everything. And especially to my original American culture and my ways of speaking. But other than that Anne is a nice girl and unquestionably gorgeous. Most would think of us as twins of our similar dark skin tone, and brown eyes. We were even the same height, the only difference was our face (obviously) and hair, her hair was short, a reddish brown and curly, mine long, black, and straight.

Anne still didn’t say another word expecting me to know something. “Hear what news?” Honestly, I was hardly interested because I knew Anne was the type to gossip about hated girls and attractive men. Before Anne could answer me though, Liza’s voice from down the hall interrupted us.

“Oh, twin power!” Liza yelled out in an irritating voice. I just my eyes and just decided to walk in an opposite direction from the two. I was on my way to one of the food courts when Liza and Anne continued to follow behind me. Soon their screeching and giggling started to get to annoying.

“Hey guys, could you please either tell me something or carry on about your business?” I had my most convincing kind attitude. Then the two girls looked at each other for a moment then looked back at me. I hoped something that girls talked about was somewhat important this time, plus I was famished. Finally, Liza decided to speak up first. “Alright I’ll cut to the chase, so-“

“What did you just say? I cannot understand your complex accent.” Anne asked confused out her mind, but Liza and I just ignored the girl.

“Okay, so I didn’t know this before but apparently there’s a new kid that just came, obviously.” Liza said. I was about to walk away but new kids here are quite rare, and especially during the year.

“So, not only is he a talented sixteen year old boy. But he’s adorable Ray.” That’s when I continued my way down the hall again, clearly. Did I really put on the impression that I care about boys much? I mean, the guitarist that put me through an emotional turmoil before sure did pike my interest a little. But he can’t be the guy they’re talking about. “Talented and adorable would be words you would use for a cat or something. What I witness before was clearly something more special.

“Ray, we’re hungry too so you might as well get used to us.” Liza almost yelled from right behind me. Why did this child have to be so darn hyper? “Anyways, I saw him in my chemistry class and almost all the girls already know so much about him!”

Then Anne jumps into the conversation. “Yeah, even though he’s dishy and all, I also heard that he lives far off from Campus…as in the country, but not your country Ray because that would be way too far.” Anne giggled at her own stupidity but I didn’t fine what she said funny at all.

“Um, Anne what does it matter where he lives?” I asked curiously. “Oh Ray there’s nothing completely wrong about it. It’s just a little disappointing that’s all.” I stopped walking and Liza bumped into a little but I still turned around to look at Anne. She had a bit of smugness on her face which was totally new to me.

“Anne, I don’t care if I know the boy or not. Judging him already because of something that might be true about him, is not the way to go.” I said calmly and hoped Anne got the message I was trying to send. But Anne just waved a hand dismissively in the air and rolled her eyes.

“Nothing to fret about Ray, cause’ all I meant was that he would be dateable if he had a more stable home. If everything Liza says about him is true, the boy would be…oh what you would call it…”A package deal.” I made the choice to let Anne believe what she wanted, because I feel like people who think like that don’t deserve my time. So, I just turned myself to looked at Liza.

“You know what Anne…oh, never mind. Liza what is this boys name?”

“Sorry, I didn’t think to ask but I know he’s a “quality instrumental” especially the guitar.”

Well, that solves it. Clearly that was the new guy and it makes much sense, since I’ve never seen him before in my live.

“Um…okay. Now come on and let’s eat Liza, and A-“ I turned back to the empty space that once was Anne, but now disappeared. That must have been the oddest discussion I’ve had with Anne so far. I hope that would be the last too.

“Okay, strange. Well I guess we can eat without her, right Ray?” Liza playfully tapped my on my arm. “Of course.” I basically whispered to myself but if I listened to my sixth sense, it would tell me something weird is going to happen. And I didn’t like that feeling at all.
