Vera
Vera, I know I had heard that name somewhere. Vera... well, I’d have to say it fits my...uhh…character. I lay on the ground, thinking about where I had gotten that name from. Where was I? What was going on? I truly didn’t know. But for some reason, I didn’t really want to know. That is why I stayed clear of the topic that night. After Nathan headed into his tent, he didn’t come out. Which left me wondering... where did he go? It wasn’t that late so he couldn’t have gone to sleep. Or could he? I asked one of the sixteen boys, a tall red head named Charles (preferred to be called Charlie) but he just laughed and made a joke about a little bird flying away. I was about to ask him what the heck that meant but he walked into a tan tent.
In fact, five more people went after him. I stood up to go after them but Alex stopped me. “What do you want bozo?!” I asked him. He pulled my hand and brought me closer to him. “What the heck?!: I yelled, “get off of me!!” But he wouldn’t.
“Please, I have to talk to you.” He said.
I looked at him, “talk to me about...” But he just kept pulling me, I could get out of his grasp if I wanted to, we both knew that, but I wanted to hear what he was saying. And I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I liked the feeling he gave me just by holding my hand...it was so firm...yet gentle...Wait, what?!
Alex pulled me away from the gang, and stopped under a big blue tree. I touched one of the leaves, it felt...leathery. “What the hell do you want, Alex?” I said, sounding harsher than I wanted to. He let go of my hand. And sat down under the tree. He patted a place next to him, an invitation. Well, it couldn’t hurt. I sat down and gave the boy all of my attention. “Well...what do you have to say/” I asked calmly.
He stared at me for a while. “what is it? Do I have something in my hair?” I asked. But he shook his head, “no...no, you are just so...”
“so...what Alex? I am so...”
“Never mind, I just realized that we never talked, well, really talked, about what happened back there. Why did you flip out?”
“ Can we not talk about that... I have some questions of my own.” I said, I didn’t want to get on that topic. He looked at me, actually, he kind of stared at me.
“Uhm, you are doing it again.” I said.
‘Huh? What?” he asked as if he just woke up.
“You keep staring at me... are you okay?”
He shook his head yet again, “yeah. I’m okay. What are your questions?”
I took that as an opportunity to let out every question I had about this strange place. I started out with the obvious, ‘where am I?” and he answered it was a place called the land of Flurd, in the western area of Rem. Apparently, I was in a strange place with the name of Remedelia, Rem for short. The land of Flurd was named after Flurd, the colorful trees I saw. I was about to ask him for more information but we were interrupted by Steven.
Alex got up, “Dude, haven’t you heard of privacy?” But Steven just shook it off, “the NW division just arrived.” Alex had an excited look in his eyes, “Well we can’t let them wait...lets go.” He pulled me up and they both ran for the campsite, dragging me behind. “Wait, who the heck are the NW division?!”
