I stared out my window. I watched a two rain drops raced eachother to the bottom of the window pane. I looked out onto the cold, rainy streets of England knowing full well this would be the last time I saw this for a while. I walked over to my ruck sack re-reading the letter i recieved from the Waverly Council Lifeguard Service, still trying to convince myself this was really happening.
I had been accepted into a Trainee Lifeguard programme down at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. A few months back i had applied for the amazing opportunity after finishing uniersity and completing a first aid course as i knew i would need to know first aid to be a lifeguard. I had been a fan of the show Bondi Rescue for some time, i mean i had seen the whole series and fell in love with Bondi straight away. When i found out i had been accepted i knew i would have to scrape together all my cash and get an apartment out there. As luck would have it i managed to get a bargin on a small flat close the Surf Club near the beach. I had only emailed my new boss Bruce Hopkins, or as he told me to call him "Hoppo", a couple of times confirming my starting date and the basics.
I looked at the clock. It was alrady 11 at night and my flight left at 2:00 am. I rang for a cab and locked up my flat. As i got in the cab and headed for Heathrow i looked out the window. I was so happy to be finally leaving England and the painful memories behind.
We arrived at the airport around 1:00 am. I paid the cab driver and went straight to check in. I showed my passport and loaded both suitcases onto the shelf. I made my way to the departure lounge as i heard the flight being called.
