I slowly walk into the detention classroom.
"And your name is?" The woman behind the desk asks with a very stern voice.
"Uhm, I'm Anna Greenleaf." I answer.
She slides the tip of her pen past a list of names, scanning them quickly.
"There you are. Take a seat. You have to be silent for the next two hours. You can do your homework or whatever. I don't want to see you eating or drinking. Understood?" She explains quickly.
"Yes madam." I say, fighting the urge to salute.
"Well, why are you still standing here then? Sit down." She says annoyed.
I quickly scurry off to the window side of the room, taking a seat in the middle of the row, closest to the window. I put my bag on the chair beside me and take out my Chemistry book, figuring I might as well take advantage of the time I'm stuck in this room.
I open the book and start reading the text. Maybe this will help me understand the questions better. I'm about halfway through the fourth page when I hear the woman speak again.
"Ah, Mr. Campbell, you actually decided to show up today." She says.
I look up and I'm shocked to see the person who walked into the room. It was the boy from the supermarket. The one with the blue-green hair. The one who helped me pick up my groceries when I dropped them outside the store. Apparently he has seen me too, because he smiles at me. I blush immediately and look back down at my book again, remembering the embarrasing events from yesterday. I hear some shuffling next to me and then behind me.
"Psst..." The Campbell-kid says.
"Not a sound, Mr. Campbell." The woman almost yells at him.
It's quiet for a bit until he starts kicking the back of my chair, making me almost smack my face against the table. I try to ignore it, but after a while it gets too annoying. I turn around and glare at him, but except for achieving what I wanted to, he just starts to laugh. Very hard.
"Mr. Campbell. Quiet now!" The woman yells, clearly tired of him already.
"I'm sorry." He apologises, still chuckling.
I turn back around and focus on Chemistry again. I am able to make a few questions before 'Mr. Campbell' starts annoying me once more. This time he throws pieces of crumbled paper at my head. One of them lands on my notebook. I grab it, turn around and throw it back at him. Then another piece of paper lands on my desk, only this time it looks like something is written on it. I open the piece of paper and read the words scribbled on it.
'Hey, I'm Logan. I recognize you from the grocery store yesterday. What's your name?'
I tear off the corner of my paper and write a reply.
'I'm Anna. Nice to meet you.'
I crumble it and pretend to stretch while I sneakily drop the piece of paper on his desk.
"Nice to meet you too." Logan whispers.
I smile, but I don't turn around. I focus back on my homework. Logan doesn't make any effort to keep the conversation going. I shrug it off and finish the work I had to do.
"Okay, the two hours are up. You can go now." The woman says.
A smile creeps onto my face as I pack my bag. I get up and walk out of the classroom.
I'm about to walk to my locker, but I'm held back by a hand getting a hold of my arm.
"Hey Anna, wait a sec."
I turn around to be greeted with the blue-green haired face of Logan Campbell.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because I want to get to know you better." He answers.
This answer has me shocked.
"Um, Logan, look... I'm very sorry but I have to get home." I say, quickly walking out of the building.
I'm forced to walk back home, since my ride wasn't prepaired to wait two hours for me or pick me up from school to drive me home.
I'm halfway down the street when a car pulls up next to me.
"Do you need a ride home?"
I look next to me and there is, surprise surprise, Logan.
"There really is no way I'm getting rid of you, is there?" I ask.
"Nope, there isn't. Now, do you need a ride or what?" He asks.
"No, I'm fine." I reply.
"You keep declining my offers to take you home, don't you?" He smiles.
"Yes, I do. Now please keep on driving, you're slowing down the other traffic." I tell him.
"Well, bye then." He says.
"Bye." I say.
Logan drives off, allowing the other cars to drive past me too. I keep on walking. I take my phone from my pocket and click the camera app, deciding to vlog for a bit.
"Hey guys, Anna here. As you can see I'm outside right now. I'm walking home from my first ever detention and I can tell you it was awful. I certainly do not recommend it." I say jokingly.
I continue to joke around for the rest of the walk home, ignoring the looks I get from people.
When I arrive at home, the driveway is empty, meaning my mom and dad are both working. I unlock the front door and step inside. I finished Chemistry homework during the two hours of detention, so I don't have much else to do. I decide to grab my laptop from my room and watch some Netflix on the couch, accompanied by a bag of candy I bought at the store yesterday.
"Anna, are you home?" My brother asks from upstairs.
"Yes, Jamie, I'm home." I reply, already annoyed by the interruption.
"Can you bring me some toilet paper?" He yells.
"No, get it yourself!" I yell back.
"Please, Anna! I've been sitting here for the past one and a half hour!" He pleads with me.
"Okay." I sigh.
I pause Netflix and get up. I grab some toilet paper from the closet and slowly walk upstairs. I grab my phone from my pocket and start the camera. I quickly explain the whole situation on film and then make my way to the bathroom, filming the whole thing.
"Jamie, I got it for you. I'm coming in now." I say in a sing-song voice.
"Yeah, just hurry, my legs are tingling." He says.
I open the door with a smirk on my face, the camera pointed at Jamie.
"Here it is. Can you even stand up?" I laugh.
"I don't think I can." He replies, making me laugh even harder.
I throw him the roll and walk back out. I stop filming and send it to Jessie, Liam and Sam. Then I walk downstairs and lay down on the couch again, unpausing Netflix and engaging myself in The Vampire Diaries.
