My Mum was incredibly beautiful. She had fine, wavy red hair. She was always out doing volunteer work, or visiting the old people's home. She had no relatives that lived there, but she just liked cheering all of the old folk up. Whenever I went to Adam's house, his Mum would just order him around like her personal slave. He didn't really mind that much, he just shrugged his wide shoulders and got on with it. I know kids are suppose to do chores and stuff, but he literally did everything! I really didn't like her. She was always told me to 'Put some meat on or you'll snap!' This really affected my self confidence.
I felt my phone buzz in my hand 'Destiny I really need to meet up I'm so bored!'
I bounced down the crooked stairs and into the narrow corridor. Dad was sitting at the kitchen table doing his accounts. His face was as red as a tomato and his hands were shaking as he held his chewed biro. "Someone seems cheery all of a sudden" Dad chuckled, but I could see the fear in his eyes. "Are you okay to go to the doctors at about 3:00-ish just to get some information about... You know." It was as if he couldn't say the word, like if he didn't say it, it wasn't real.
I nodded and texted Adam. 'Want to come and hang out? We can talk about your thing and I need to tell you something really important x.' Adam replied instantly, this was one of the many things I loved about him 'Sure! I'll be there in like 5 minutes see ya x.' Adam only lived about 6 doors down from me, so we would always hang out on weekends and after school. I sat on Dad's lap and told him that Adam was coming round. "Okay babe, if you're going out, be sure to be back here for about 2:30." I smiled at him and waited by the front entrance impatiently. "BRING." I immediately opened the door and hugged Adam. He squeezed me tightly and then looked at me with a confused expression on his face. "Come on, let's go to the park." I insisted. I was desperate to get out of the house. I had been in it for a whole day, I needed fresh air. "Okay, I'll tell you when we get there. No offence, but you look awful." How was 'no offence' suppose to make in not offensive, I hated when he said that "Shut up you, it's 'cause I've been cooped up in the house with a stupid headache" I laughed and pushed him around jokily "Calm yourself Destiny, are you okay?" It took me a minute to respond, did I lie to him or not? "I'll tell you when we get there." We walked all the way there in complete silence. But not the awkward kind, the thinking kind. As if we were both in such deep thought, that we just ignored each other. The park was covered in frost. It was so beautiful. The swings were dead still as if they were frozen in time. I sat down on the despondent bench and took a huge breathe. "You okay Dessy?" He sometimes called me this when I was feeling down. He sat down and nudged up to me. He was always really warm, this comforted me a lot when I was stressed. He placed his hand on my knee and looked into my eyes. His eyes were a gorgeous dark khaki green like the river. I didn't know how I was going to tell him, he would stop being my friend and start hanging out with Ethel and leave me to suffer alone. I decided to just say it "Adam. I...I..." I burst into tears and I put my head on Adam's shoulder. He cradled me like a baby and rocked me in his arms. I peered up at him with my face bright red and my hands trembling. "You don't have to tell me, I understand if you don't want to." His thick mousey blonde hair swayed in the subtle breeze. I could not focus on what he was saying, why had everything become so confusing and unclear. I just had to tell him
