That night the girl talked to Sammy. He learned that her name was Monica. She was yes, as Sammy had guessed, sixteen. She was adopted by this family when she was ten. She had been given up for adoption many times before by other families. She was given up for adoption when she was two and has been told by the orphanage staff many times as she asked that she was supposedly left by her birth mother on the doorstep on a dark, cold and stormy night. Sammy listened in silence. She then asked Sammy if she could tell him a secret.  He me owed once and rubbed against her hand purring loudly. She began by telling Sammy that she hadn't really been given up for adoption. She told  him that she killed her first parents. Then she had gone to the orphanage and crawled through an open basement window and gotten adopted by a lovely couple about a month after. Sammy meowed thoughtfully.
"I really hope that means you understand Sammy." Monica said with a glint in her eyes. "I've never told anyone before. But now I feel better that I've told someone, even if you are just a cat."  Monica confessed. Next she told Sammy how she has killed every   couple that has ever adopted her. She said she never mentioned to. Nor did she want to. She would just get a sudden urge, wait until everyone was asleep and kill her parents. She didnt understand why, it sometimes scared her. Usually she didn't like doing it because she liked most of her parents. But for others, she wasn't sorry at all if she killed them. They figured out that she kills every two years.
"I'm not really sure how long it's going to be until I'm forced to kill again. I really do like these parents. They feed me well, are kind to me, they promise they will never hurt, promise they will always love me, have a good amount of money so they give me an allowance. I'm just not so sure I could do something like that to these people." Monica thought out loud.
Sammy meowed sadly. Monica leaned over and hugged Sammy gently. He purred loudly.
"You know something Sammy? You are a really good listener." she complemented. "I've had many friends who listen well to me if I tell them my problems, but none that have listened like you do." she smiled down at him.
"Monica, I need you to come down for dinner and feed the cat!" her mom yelled up the stairs.
"Ok mom!" Monica shouted back. She fed Sammy and raced down the stairs. "Mmmmmmmmm, something smells good. What is it?" Monica asked inhaling deeply through her nose as she sat down at the table.
"It's cheeseburgers." Her mother answerd as she set down a plate of food in front of Monica, Monica's dad, and herself. Then she sat down next to her husband. "Dig in."
