•Cason's POV•

I watch Callie sigh in relief as she exits her dad's office.

I smile in amusement, "All done?"

She nods in response and stretches her hands above her head, a gesture I find unbelievably adorable.

Callie's dad pokes his head out of the door and locks eyes with me, "Ah Cason, it is you. Mind if we have a quick chat?"

I knew that wasn't a question, I was having a chat whether I wanted to or not.

I see Callie giving her dad a questioning look but I walk past her and to the door, before glancing back at her, "I'll be out in a sec."

She purses her lips, "Alright, I'll wait downstairs."

I give her a smile and close the door before turning around and see Alpha Ryder is sitting at his desk.

I feel as though I'm walking into the principal's office.

He motions to the chair in front of him, "Cason, do sit please."

I nod and take a seat, looking at him expectantly.

He leans forward on his forearms, linking his fingers together and looks at me, "So, I believe you're Callie's mate, that is correct yes?"

I swallow the lump in my throat, "Yes Alpha."

He is quite unreadable, his eyes seem to be glued to me, studying my every move. He tightens his jaw a little, and I prepare myself for whatever will come next.

Which was very surprising.

He stands up, a smile on his face, and opens out his hands wide, "Please, call me Ryder. Welcome to the family son."

He extends a hand to me but I'm frozen in place.

Is this actually happening?

He motions his head down to his awaiting hand and I shake out of it, standing up also and meet his hand in a firm handshake.

"Thank you, uh, Ryder." I reply.

He nods, still smiling and comes around the desk, patting me on the back in a fatherly gesture.

"You know, I have to admit I was quite thrilled to hear that my Callie was mated to an Alpha. When I have time, you'll have to tell me more about your future plans." He says warmly.

"Of course." I nod, although even I didn't know what they were yet.

"Also, you're welcome to our home anytime." He claps his hands together before going around again the desk and sitting back down.

"Thank you Alp- I mean Ryder." This was going to take some getting used to.

He smiles at me one more time before I exit, shutting the door behind me and letting out the large breath I was holding in.

I head downstairs and see Callie fiddling with her camera. She looks up when she hears me approaching.

"Everything okay?" She asks, I see the slight worry in her eyes.

I give her a smile, "Looks like you'll be able to see a lot more of me."

She rolls her eyes at me and mumbles, "It's not like I don't see you a lot already."

I step towards her, a playful glint in my eyes, "What was that?"

She shakes her head and puts her camera down before she starts to walk away, "Nothing. Nothing at all."
