He'd never heard his father's voice so calm, Lucas didn't know what to expect. Normally when he got home late his father would be yelling with empty beer bottles crowding around him. But he was calm, no bottles no yelling, but anger still hung thick in the air.
Lucas wanted to go back outside and run to Danny's house. He knew her mother would be fine with it. Sarah basicly considers him her son. He even had his own room there for nights when he knew it was going to get bad. On days where he stayed out too late for his father.
It was around 11:40, he's stayed out longer before. What was going on? That's when he heard it. A woman talking to his father.
"He should live with me, he'd be happier." She said obviously worried. He knew exactly who it was. It was Ray. Why was she here?
"No he's fine here." Aaron stated. Lucas could feel the tension in the house rise. He knew what would happen to Ray if she didn't just leave it at no. She's 21 she knows better with Aaron.
"He's not fine. You know that," ray declared. "He won't be fine till he gets away from you Aaron." Now she's done it.
Aaron raises his hand just as Lucas runs into make sure Ray doesn't get hurt. He gets there just in time for his father's hand to hit his face instead of Rays. It stings and probably be bruised in a bit but it's better than his sister being hurt.
"Lucas get out of the way!" He yells, the calm facade now gone.
"Luke are you okay?" Ray asks with actual concern.
"Shut up he's fine."

Lucas jumped awake sweating.
"Thank god that was just a dream" he said to himself relived.
He picked up his phone and started texting Danny about it. He knew that what had happened the night before was something to do with the dream. But the dream stopped before it got worse. Which was good considering how he really didn't want to relive that. A dream or not.
Danny texted back telling him it'd be okay and if he still wants her to bring the makeup to school. He quickly texted back an I'm fine and yes please before jumping into the shower.
After the shower he put on a dark grey hoodie and black skinny jeans on. Which soon became the go to outfit on mornings after his father left bruises on him.
His father didn't rape him or touch him in any way. But it was physical and mental abuse. Somedays were fine just a few homophobic slurs here and there but other times it would leave Lucas crying on the way to Danny's house at midnight.
Danny always knew how to cheer him up. She knew what was going on at his home so after school and on weekends she'd have him come over to make sure he's okay. She'd also stay up till she got a text from Lucas saying he was okay or if something bad happened.
If something bad did happen normally she would call him and they would talk about it. Her mother was just the same. Danny's father left and stopped contact when she was 14 so she understood when Lucas's mother left to be with a guy who was better than his father and left him there.
Lucas looked at his clock, 6:45 am it said.
"Oh shit." Lucas sighed to himself. "Guess I'm going out the window today."
As Lucas climbed out of his window on the second story of the house he noticed Danny's car parked a block down the road. She knew he'd be late.
He ran to her car immediately after hitting the hard ground. His father was about to get up and Lucas didn't want to deal with him.
"Wow. Didn't even do your hair today," Danny jokingly stated.
"I didn't have time" Lucas stated out of breath, "it's kind of a mess don't look" he brought his hands up to his hair covering it. He had his beanie so he put it on covering most of his hair leaving his curly brown bangs to cover his forehead.
"That's okay Lukey! Hey your bruise is getting a lot better! You won't need that much makeup today," she exclaimed.
"How many times have I told you not to call me Lukey? You call me Luke, lucas or you don't call me at all," he laughed out.
"Whatever you say Lukey."
