Chapter 25
Ivy’s POV
I walked down the hall towards my locker, brushing against people who were all anxiously trying to get out of school on this Friday afternoon. I had just left my final class, Art, where I had been developing photos in the darkroom the entire class period so I was unable to check my phone. When I had finished up and the bell had rung, I grabbed my phone out of my bag and headed down the halls. Opening up my messages, I saw I had four unopened texts.
I skimmed through who they were from, opening the first from Jackie.
Hey girl! I want an update on u and M!! call me l8r?
I hit reply, texting her I would call her later after dinner. I opened the second message from Oakley.
Staying after school4study session. Ill get a ride. c u at home.
Got it. I replied back. I glanced up as I approached my locker. Stuffing my phone under my arm, I spun my locker combo and opened the door. Grabbing the books I would need to do my homework, I closed my locker and rummaged through my bag for my car keys.
Pulling them out, I wrapped the lanyard around my finger and went back to checking my messages as I walked down the halls to my car, keys jingling. The next message was from Michael.
Hey hope ur feeling better. U seemed a bit off this AM…u ok?
Sighing, I went to the last message, deciding to call him later and explain everything about Cole. I didn’t want him to over react or anything – especially since I was sure what we were yet – so it would be best to hear it from me, rather than read it from me.
I opened the last message just as I saw the doors up ahead that led outside. I saw the message was from Cole. I smiled as I opened it.
Hey Baby V! im gonna try &find u after school so we can go get a coffee:)
I hit reply and started texting him back to say I would meet him by the car, when a warm arm slung around my shoulders. I jumped in shock, whipping to my left, wondering who had so rudely popped my personal space bubble. About to punch whoever it was in the face, I took in the familiar grey blue eyes in front of me, sighing in relief.
“Cole! What the poop?” I asked, leaning into him as my nerves calmed themselves.
He laughed. “Still don’t curse, huh, Baby V?” he teased. I rolled my eyes as we pushed through the doors, blinking in the bright sunlight.
“No, Cole, I don’t. I think there are better word choices,” I stated matter of factly. He just laughed as we approached my car.
Cole dropped his arm from my shoulder as he rushed ahead to the car. I instantly felt the absence of his arm, but it was different than with Michael. When Michael was gone, I almost felt like I was cold or missing a piece of myself, where with Cole it just felt like a brotherly, protector kind of comfort that had gone away temporarily.
I walked to the driver’s side, unlocking the car and hopping in. I put the keys in the ignition as Cole hopped in, bouncing in his seat like a toddler.
