I follow my gang into an alley near the schools entrance. Jack says he's waiting for Phil. I hope Phil has already left. Just then I see Phil walk past. He hasn't noticed.

"Hey gay boy!" Jack yells. I turn to leave but Tony, another member of my gang, says they'll hurt me if I leave.

Phil flinches and picks up his pace, but Jack grabs the collar of his shirt and pulls him into the alley. Phil spots me and my heart breaks. He looks at me with pleading eyes. Tears threatening to spill out of his innocent eyes.

Jack throws a punch to Phil's stomach,
making him fall to his knees. Jack tears off Phil's backpack and steps back, letting the other two members of his gang punch and kick Phil. Phil never takes his eyes off of me, we stare into each other's eyes until I can't take it anymore. I look away and sit against the wall, not daring to look into Phil's eyes, which tears are now spilling out of.

Jack sits next to me with Phil's backpack.

"Why aren't you joining in?" He grunts.

"Just not feeling it today," I say trying not to sound sad.

Jack opens Phil's backpack and starts to go through it. Tony and Luke, the other two members of the gang, finally stop beating Phil. They sit him on his knees so he's facing me and Jack. Phil sees Jack holding his backpack and try's to run away, but Tony catches him and sits him back down. My hearts breaks to see him like this, but I can't do anything.

Jack pulls out some folders and throws them aside. He pulls out a notebook and goes through it. It's filled with beautiful drawings.

"You draw these?" He asks Phil. Phil just nods, "they're terrible. I've never seen anything worse," he says. They're not terrible, they're the best drawings I've ever seen.

Jack starts pulling out all the drawing and ripping them to pieces. Phil screams "No! Stop!" But Luke just punches him and he gets quiet.

Jack continues to go through all of Phil's school supplies, throwing them all over the ground.

Jack continues to go through all the little pockets in Phil's backpack. There's nothing in any of the pockets so far. Jack opens the last pocket and pulls out a small shiny blade. Oh no.

"Well what do we have here?" Jack chuckles, "I guess the little fag is more fucked up than I thought. Come on boys, let's go."

Jack stands up and kicks Phil's backpack towards him. Tony and Luke start to walk away and I follow. I turn around and see Jack throw the blade at Phil. Phil lets out a loud shriek as the blade lands in his leg. The sight of that small blade lodged in Phil's leg makes me sick.

Jack walks out of the alley, with me, Tony, and Luke following. Once we're out of the alley I peek back in and watch Phil. He gets up slowly and puts everything back in his bag, the blade still in his leg.

Phil's collapses on the ground. He quickly rips the blade out of his leg and shoves it in his backpack. It didn't look like it hurt him that much, but I know it did. He pulls his knees up to his chest and starts to cry, his loud sobs echoing through the empty alley.

I want to run up to Phil and hug him but I can't. My gang has left, but I don't feel like I cant face Phil right now.

I start to walk away towards my house. Then I get an idea. I'll buy Phil some flowers and show up at his door. I turn around and head to the shops.

Once I finally find the perfect bouquet of roses it's already dark outside.

I arrive at Phil's house and see his mum and dad walking out the front door. Phil's dad gets in the car but his mum notices me. She looks at me and smiles.

"Oh hi Dan," she chirps.

"Hi, is Phil home?" I ask sweetly.

"Yeah, he's been upstairs since he got home from school. I didn't see him I just heard him run upstairs. You can go in if you want, the doors open," she waves and gets into the car. I say thank you as she closes the door. The car drives off.

I walk up to the door and open it. I call Phil's name but I don't get an answer. I walk upstairs and look in his room. He's not in there. I walk past the bathroom and hear a small sob.

I quietly twist open the doorknob. Phil is sitting on the floor in just his boxers holding his blade. His arms are covered in blood and so is one of his legs. He sees me and jumps to his feet.

I drop the flowers and go to hug Phil but he pushes me away.

"Go away," he says quietly.

"Phil, I'm sorry," I say. Phil takes a step towards me to push me but his leg with all the cuts on it gives out. He falls to the floor and starts to sob. I rush to his side and help him back up.

"Get out!" He screams through sobs. My heart is breaking into a million pieces.

"Phil. I'm so sorry," I try to calm him down.

"You didn't even help me. You just stood there! You just watched while they beat the shit out of me and ruined all my stuff! How could you?! I thought you were my boyfriend. But you don't even care about me. I thought we had something special," he says.

"We do. I'm sorry. They said they'd hurt me to if I tried to stop them," I whisper.

"Well as long as your not hurt I guess everything's all right," Phil's says sarcastically.

"I wanted to be okay so I could take care of you!" Phil flinches when I raise my voice.

"I'm sorry, please don't hurt me. Please don't beat me for yelling at you," Phil pleads and sinks to the floor, which is covered in blood. It breaks my heart more than anyone could ever imagine because Phil is so broken. He's so use to people beating him when he doesn't obey. I sit down and pull Phil into a hug. I don't even care that I'm getting blood all over my clothes.

"I would never, ever hurt you Phil. I love you more than anyone could ever imagine. And I'm so so sorry," I whisper into his hair.

"You hurt me when you didn't try to save me from your gang," Phil whispers back.

"I know, I'm so stupid for not helping you. I just knew that if I did they would hurt you more. And I couldn't let that happen. Can you ever forgive me?" I plead.

"Yeah, I forgive you. I would have done the same thing. But why are you still in their gang?"

"Tell you what, tomorrow at school I'll tell them I don't want to hang around them anymore. Now let's get you cleaned up yeah?" I say and Phil nods.

After I've cleaned up the cuts on Phil's arms and legs I wrap bandages around the deep cut Jack made when he threw the blade. I also clean up the blood on the floor. I want to ask Phil to stop cutting, but I know that won't do anything.

I pick up Phil bridle style and carry him into his room. I set him under the covers and give him a big hug. I give him a kiss on the cheek.

"I love you Dan," Phil says quietly.

"I love you more," I respond. I switch off the light and close Phil's door. Phil is so broken, but with time I know I can put his pieces back together.
