One day, you were out buying food and saw Sans in the distance on the other side of Snowdin. You smiled and waved your arm at him in greetings, laughing in delight. He called out to you. "HUMAAAAAAN!!!!!!! Come on!!!! I need to show you something!!!" You lowered your arm tilted your head in confusion. Somehow, the little skeleton could see the look on your face and called out again. "You'll like it, promise!!" You gradually started to walk faster, eventually breaking into a paced jog. He seemed much farther away than you knew he was. You slowed down as you got closer, Sans grinning with stars in his eyes. "Come on, (Y/N). You NEED to see this! Myeh heh heh!" You nodded and started walking with him. When you got back to the house, Sans put his finger to his teeth, signaling for you to be quiet. You did the same, and he slowly started opening the door, making sure it didn't creak. He pointed through, and you looked at what he wanted you to see. His brother, Papyrus, was with the dog that was always causing the brothers trouble in Snowdin, trying to pull something out of its mouth that you couldn't quote make out. "No! Bad dog! Give me that! What SOLE purpose does this have? Nyeh heh heh!!" You looked at Sans and mouthed What is he doing?? He leaned in and whispered "The dog took his shoe. Pap's been trying to get it back for over 2 hours." The two of you snickered and Sans closed the door. You had been sharing moments like these ever since you met. "There's something else." He whispered to you. He started walking in the direction of Waterfall. Even though you had no idea what he could want to show you there, you followed anyway. You got to a spot just far enough away from a group of Echo Flowers that you could both talk at normal volumes. "Okay, (Y/N). I want you to go in and listen to the Echo Flowers in order of labeling. Don't skip any or go around!" Without letting you have a chance to ask why, Sans sped away faster than his legs should have been able to carry him. You shrugged and went in. You bent down over the Echo Flower with the number "1" painted in front of it in bright red. "H-Hey, (Y/N), if you're hearing this, it means I finally build up the courage to tell you something important." That seemed to be the end of the first one. You walked over to the second one and bent down in the same manner. "Okay, *exhale* I've wanted to tell you this for a long time. Ever since I met you... I..." The message stopped. You continued. "Sorry, I can't do this. It's just too much." The next flower was a little ways away and seemed like it hadn't been there for as long as the ones before it, matching the ones after except for a sprout at the very end. You approached number 4. "Okay, it's been a month since I last left a flower. I have to do this. I can't hide anymore." The hype was real. Number 5 was different from the others. Sans seemed almost confident. "I felt the original reason that I left these messages on Echo Flowers instead of telling you myself was because they matched the theme. What theme? You'll find out soon enough." You hesitantly went to the sixth flower. "My real motivation, if you could even call it that, was that I was scared. I see that now and I see that I was wrong." You couldn't stop here. You needed to keep going. You went to number 7. After this, only 3 more to go. "I've been... lying to you. About not capturing you, about everything. I hope you can ever forgive me. If you don't, I understand." Sanss messages keep getting shorter. "But no more lying. I need to be honest with you, (Y/N). I..." That's where it stopped. You HAD to know what he needed to say. "(Y/N), please keep an open mind about this. Take it into consideration. Think long and hard about it. Please. If we're really friends. Myeh heh..." Only one flower left. You walked up to the sprout, quivering. You weren't scared, but nervous. What was he going to tell you? "(Y/N), I love you." You had to put your hand on your mouth to keep yourself from squealing. "I always have and I always will, even if you can't forgive me for lying to you. The theme I talked about earlier... Beauty. You're not only on the outside, but on the inside too. These flowers can't even hold a candle to how beautiful you are. If you... If you feel the same, please put on my scarf and wear it back. I left it by the gate." You turned around and saw it hanging there, just like the flower said. You don't even remember him taking it off. You walked over and picked it up. You tied it around your neck carefully, looking back at the Echo Flower garden. You could smell the scarf around your neck, and it was just like Sans. A pleasant smell, somewhat like iron but with a sweetness to it. "Thank you, Sans." You whispered. "Thank you." You turned back around, heading back to Snowdin.
