Alice

I can't tell you a specific time when I started to see him. One day we were at the park, and I saw it. A white rabbit. I pulled upon my mother's sleeve to show her, but when she turned around, she said "Alice, I don't see a rabbit anywhere."

But how could she not? It was sitting in plain sight.

"Don't be silly mother. Of course you see the white rabbit. And he sees us. He's looking right this way." In fact, he hopped a bit forward towards us. She turned a full circle and swept her eyes across the whole park looking the rabbit that was quite literally in front of her!

"Oh Alice, you have such a big imagination. But dear, there is no 'white rabbit'."

She sat down and continued a conversation with a lady sitting net to her. I started to believe her, and turned around to go back to the park, but something caught my eye. The rabbit was looking at me. It started hopping away and me being my six year old self, decided to follow him. He turned left onto a path.

The grass was short and so vibrantly green. The trees up above had vines hanging down with lilac purple flowers all over them. This place was beautiful and I couldn't help but stand there with an open mouth. Off to my left there was a noise. The white rabbit was getting away. He sporadically twisted and turned, while I followed. I can't lose him!

At last he stopped in a clearing. Or should I say a cliff. I walked towards the rabbit, feeling victorious at catching my prey. Then I tripped over a branch and fell. As I got back up, he was gone. I searched all over until I reached the edge. I could hear the sound of water way down below me. I got on my tummy and peeked over edge. It was VERY far down. I kept leaning over to get a closer look when I heard,

"What are you doing?"

I quickly got up and brushed myself off and turned around to see a boy with bright red hair.

"What are you doing here?" I said him.

This boy was staring at me as if I fell from the sky.

"I asked you first. Why were you hanging off the side of that cliff. That was very dangerous, you know."

When he asked me why I was hanging over the cliff, I suddenly remembered, the rabbit is gone! I can't believe I let him get away from me. I start to scour the area while talking to the strange boy, who was now following me.

" I saw a white rabbit and followed him here." I looked behind a bush, but he wasn't there.

"How do you know it was a he?" he spoke up.

"Excuse me?"

"I said how do you know it was a he?"

I paused in my step and looked at him.

"Why do you ask so many questions? Who are you anyways?"

"My name is Ed. What's your name?"

"Alice if you must know. I have to be leaving now, the rabbit has a head start."

A look of recognition came across his eyes.

"Are you the girl that everyone at the park is looking for? I think you mum had just called the police when I left."

Oh, I had tunnel vision on catching the rabbit, that I didn't tell my mum were I was going! She's probably going crazy right about now.

"Shame, really. Well I ought to go back before she files a missing person report. Nice meeting you Ed."

He smiled cheekily at me, "It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

I gave him one last look and left him with, "Ed, you're really weird," and I started my venture back to the park. I heated a twig snap behind me and I twirled around to see Ed falling instep beside me.

"And just what do you think you are doing?" I asked him. Mother always tells me to tell someone when I think a bad person is following me, and it is blatantly obvious that Edward is following me. But I don't think he's a bad person though.

"I also have to go back to the park. But I actually told my mum where I was going." he said.

"So I'll see you later?" he asked me.

 "Maybe." I responded.
