I stand in front of my bathroom mirror, completely naked. Holding the blade up to my ribs, I dig into the pale skin. Blood flows from the cut, dripping onto the countertop. Music blares from the radio, carving it's songs into my head. The bones in my hips are covered by a layer of fat, disgusting me. If only it would go away.
A knock sounds on the door. I still, blade still halfway engulfed inside my skin.
"Ebony? Are you in there?" My mothers voice calls through the oak door.
Shit, shit, shit!
"Yes?" I yell back, pulling the metal from my side, shoving it under the sink. Blotting at the blood, I pull my robe on, covering the cuts.
"Can you come out? We need to talk,"
NO!
"Can I take my shower first?" I cross my fingers and toes, praying she'll say sure.
A sigh is heard from behind the door.
"Please? This will only take a minute," I can practically hear my mother placing a hand on her hip.
This time I'm the one who sighs.
"Just one minute," I mimick.
"Did you say something?"
I shake my head, "No!"
Pulling the door open a crack I sneak a peek at her. Bleach blonde hair resting on top of her head, too-tight dress that shows off her curves. My mother is a model, skinny and beautiful, completely the opposite of me. I clutch my robe tighter.
"Yes?"
She shifts from foot to foot, restlessly, "I have a photo shoot to go to, Ebony. You need to watch your sisters. Jett will be home in an hour to help you."
I shrug, I always have to take care of my sisters, big surprise.
"And, I need you to drive out to your dad's office, his car broke down." She finishes.
Inwardly I groan, I do NOT get along with my father. Ever since I was first hospitalized he's hated me.
"Fine."
"Thank you darling, you're a huge help!" My mother kisses the air around me, avoiding my skin as though I have some horrid plague.
Spinning around, I jump back into the bathroom. I turn on the water, burning hot. The steam fogs the mirrors, choking me.
If only it could really choke me.
Peeling off the robe, I make note of the blood stains so that I can wash it later.
