Please please please became the mantra I have had in my head for the past hour. My best friend Maria and I were sitting in the school auditorium awaiting the results of Assignment Day. Assignment Day is is the day they give senior spies their orders. Yes, spies.

Announcing the orders was the head honcho himself, Mr. Woods. He was a slightly chubby guy that probably had muscles at one time, who had also started sporting the balding look within the past couple of years.

Here at Mountain View, we are the best of the best. So there is a lot of stiff competition to get the position Maria and I both want. Also in the running is the school's heartthrob, Collin Knox. With that thought I glance over at the so called person.

I take in his appearance, what I was taught to do with every person I met. He has short choppy dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and a tall lean fisique.

His large callused hands suggest he likes to work with his hands, but anyone here would have callused hands with all the intense training we are put through.

We have mountain climbing(on a real mountain hence the name of the school), swimming laps in lakes, and sky diving are just a few. It was pretty intense at first, but going through it all ends up worth it if you get the right assignment.

Lastly I looked at his signature smirk all the girls swoon over. As that thought crossed my mind, it is as though he could read my mind, he looks directly towards me. Catching me looking at him only encouraged his smirk to grow and for me to react by swiftly turning my head away.

I now tried focusing intensely on the principal's next words.

"So most of you all know by now," Mr. Woods began, "that an assignment this year will give two people the chance to work together. This might be one of the most important out of all of the assignments. I am proud to say that the two people chosen for this position are fine young people, and should make this school proud."

Maria and I glance at one another, our grips on our hands getting tighter, and our feet start bouncing with the anticipation. My stomach, I don't know about her's, was turning with every chance it could get.

"Those two individuals are... Annalise Carter and Collin Knox!" Mr. Woods bellowed sending both of us proud, congratulating smiles.

Right when he uttered his name my heart dropped and hide somewhere so far away I don't know when I will be able to retrieve it. Feeling like I weighed 10 pounds heavier than I did, I turned to face Maria and gave her a bone crushing hug trying to hold my sadness in and not letting it control me.

"I'll be ok, just don't let him get to you" Maria said with her voice barely cracking. Hearing that slightly cracked the reservoir of tears that appeared upon my sudden sadness, resulting in one slowly gliding down my face. Quickly swiping it away, I broke them embrace and shakily got up.

"I won't, trust me," I said giving her what I hoped looked like a reassuring smile.

Starting the embark through the auditorium I received sympathy glances from the guys and envious ones from the girls. I was a couple of feet from the exit when I noticed Collin waiting for me.

Usually I don't get distracted like that, but it doens't help with the news that I was just given. Acting like I didn't notice him, I trudged though the door he had open for me. As I brushed past him my heartbeat slightly got faster, but I chose to not pay attention to it. Not being able to stand the thought of being ignored, he jogged up towards me trying to match my slightly fast pace.

"So...I guess we will be getting to know each other pretty well," he started sending me a smirk, making me think he is implying much more.

"Oh how you wish," I simply stated getting the timing perfect, so I was able to barge into my room.

"Just you wait," I heard muffled from the other side of door I had slammed shut, "you will grow to love me!"

"In your dreams," I said under my breath. Releasing a heavy sigh, I glance around my room, I stare at the pretty basic room, but getting sad still. Everyone has the same set up: blue comforter, small wooden desk, and a dark wooded bed that has drawers underneath for clothes and storage.

Remembering the tear, I made my way over to the bathroom at far side of the room. Turning on the blinding white light I turned around to face the mirror.

I studied myself while taking deep calming breaths. Staring straight back at my was an eighteen year old girl, with medium length brown hair, and a slightly tanned face. What most people noticed about her, however, was her eye color. Blue. Not your average color for a brunette.

Standing up on my toes and leaning against the sink to get closer to the mirror, I swiped at my now watery mascara. I then grabbed my make up back and added a small amount of foundation to remove the red splotches that started to appear and also the puffiness.

Trying to pull myself further out of my depressing state, I walked out of the bathroom and over to my suitcase to start packing.

After setting the last of my things into the suitcase, giving myself enough time to collect my thoughts and feelings, I heard a loud boom. Not able to turn around fast enough I was immediately engulfed in someone's olive toned thin arms. Knowing exactly whose they are I respond by returning the hug.

"Anna," I hear muffled by her face in my shirt.

Giving a slight chuckle I successfully step out of the embrace.

"Now I thought you said you were going to be ok." I state feigning a disappointed tone.

"I think they are sending me to China!" Maria shouts sending me a scared look.

"Perfect! With you being Chinese and having long dark hair you will do perfectly" I praised staring into her dark brown eyes hoping my confidence with rub off on her.

"You don't understand," she rebutted "I haven't been there ever since the death of my parents."

"China is a huge place I am sure that everything will be fine." With that I gave her a reassuring hug.

Trying to act strong for both of us, I break the embrace. "Time for me to face the music and teach Collin not to mess with me." As I sent a smile her way the only thought that was going through my mind was, Lets get this over with.
