Eight
Three days. It had been three days since Quin was brought in here unconscious and bleeding. Three days since he'd been unconscious. Three days of watching Saeko slicing at a log angrily during the day and then curling up next to him during the night, unable to sleep. Three days of seeing Takashi's worried face and getting angry glares from Rei. I couldn't sleep properly and my appetite was next to nothing, and my internal fuse was less than that, so much so that I'd asked the others to stay away from me for a bit so that I didn't snap at them.
Three days and I'd already had enough. I wanted to barge into the room and shake that baka awake or slap him until he opened his eyes. My nerves were shot with worry over whether he'd wake up or not and it was taking a serious toll on me.
There was a gentle knock on my door before Saeko's voice made its way to me, muffled by the door between us.
"Kat? I'm going to go see him now...are you coming?" She asked.
"Yeah," I called back, my voice husky from lack of use for the past few days, "Be right there."
I rubbed at my burning eyes tiredly and got up with a sigh. I left the room and joined Saeko in the hallway. She gave me a small weak smile and I nodded, unable to force myself to smile.
We walked in silence until we reached the room which was filled with...voices?
Saeko and I frowned at each other before pressing our ears to the door.
We were rewarded with the unmistakable sound of Quinton chuckling.
He was awake!
I immediately began seething. He was laughing. Laughing! Like he'd just been missing for a few minutes or something!
"What happened?" I heard Takashi ask.
"I got caught unaware by a zombie. Got sliced on a piece of rebar. It hurt like hell," Quin mumbled and I felt a mixture of relief and anger. Relief that he was able to escape the zombie and anger that he'd gotten hurt in the first place.
"Okay." Takashi suddenly said loudly, "You can come in now."
I exchanged a glance with Saeko, wondering how Takashi knew we were there when we'd been so quiet.
Saeko shrugged her shoulders before she turned to face the door with her jaw clenched and her lips pursed, an unmistakable burn in her eyes. I turned to face the door and I'm pretty sure my expression was identical to hers as I pushed it open and we stepped inside.
My eyes immediately fell on Quin who was sitting up in bed, hand resting on his bandaged side. Red was visible in the white bandage and my eyes darkened as I stepped forward.
Quin looked between Saeko and me and paled considerably, turning to Takashi, "Um...you wouldn't let them hurt me, right?" He asked his voice filled with desperation.
"It's either you, or me," Takashi said with a shrug, "I prefer you."
I smirked darkly when Quin got a panicked look in his eyes as Takashi walked toward the door.
"Be sure to patch him up," he said loudly, placing a medical kit on a nearby table. He paused as he past by me, "Take it easy on him, yeah?" He requested quietly so only I could hear.
I gave him an almost imperceptible nod and he walked out.
As soon as Shizuka left as well and the door closed, we advanced on one nervous, injured baka.
"You wouldn't hurt a poor, injured guy now, would you?" He chuckled nervously.
Saeko's hand connected to his left cheek and his head whipped to the side but he didn't get a chance to recover as my palm connected to his right cheek, whipping his head back to the front.
