It had been a rough day. Snotlout had ripped up my notes and teased me, calling me the worst Viking in history, a disgrace, failure. I walked through the woods to clear my mind. I ended up in the cove. It was quiet there. I sat down on a rock and drew in the dirt with a stick. I did this until I heard a noise behind me, and I turned around. I didn't see anything. Just as I was about to turn around again I was a shadow shoot a crossed the water. Suspicious, I walked around the pond and stared at the clump of bushes and tree roots I saw the shadow dart into. "Hello?" I saw movement. I frowned. "Whoever's in there, jokes over." A few seconds later, the bushes rattled. A woman stepped out where I could see her. She had long hair, fur around her shoulders, and weird leather armor. She looked strangely familiar. She stared at me. "Hiccup." I squared my shoulders. "How do you know my name?" She took a step forward. "Hiccup. It's been so long." I was confused. "Who are you?" A smile, so small it almost didn't exist, played on her face. "I'm your mother."
I tensed. "No. My mothers dead. You can't be her." She shook her head. "No. I am your mother." Her eyes glistened. I was appalled. If this really was my mother, what was she doing here? I had to be sure. I walked up to her, and stared into her eyes. They were green, like mine. I stared at her for awhile. Then I was sure. I realized why she looked so familiar. She looked like me.  I choked up. "Mom." She was crying, but she laughed once and held out her arms. I ran into them. She squeezed me tight. "My son." I squeezed her back. For a moment, nothing existed except me and her. We sank to our knees, resting in each other's arms. She finally pulled away and looked me over. "My baby. Hiccup, you've gotten so tall. You're so handsome." I just stared at her. She slowly reached out and put her hand on my cheek. I held her wrist."What are you doing here?" She brushed my bangs out of my eyes with her other hand. "I had to see you. You're different son. I know that. So I have an invitation for you." I was curious.  "What is it?" She stared at me. "For you to come back with me to where I live." I drew a sharp breath. Should I go? I had never felt like I belonged on Berk. If I went with her, would I find somewhere where I belonged? Would Berk be better off without me? Only one way to find out. I flung myself into her arms again. "Yes."
