Should I go? I had never felt like I belonged on Berk. If I went with her, would I find somewhere where I belonged? Would Berk be better off without me? Only one way to find out. I flung myself into her arms again. "Yes." She smiled. ""Good. Do you need to go get some things before we leave?" I nodded. "Just a few." She patted my shoulder. "Alright then. Go get your things, and I'll wait here." I hugged her one more time before heading out. Once I was home I grabbed a satchel and quickly filled it with my notebook, a dagger, a spare tunic, and my small smithing tools. I also grabbed a couple large handfuls of charcoal pencils and a sketch of my father. I slung the bag over my shoulder and left. I took one last look at my house before leaving. I went back to the cove, where mom was waiting. She smiled when she saw me. "Let's go home son." I looked up at her. "How will we get there? Do you have a ship?" She laughed. "No, but you might want to brace yourself." I was confused. She turned around and whistled. A huge dragon burst into the cove. I yelled in surprise and fell backwards. The dragon nuzzled mom for a second, then turned his attention to me. He walked up to me, his head down. I scooted backwards frantically. Then the dragon got right up in my face and sniffed, causing my hair to blow out of my face. Mom came up next to it and put a hand on its side. "Hiccup, this is Cloudjumper. He-" she faltered. "He's the one who took me away." I slowly stood up, and held out my hand cautiously. Cloudjumper sniffed it as mom got on his back. She held out her hand. "Come on up son, he's very gentle." I accepted her hand and she pulled me up. I sat behind her and held her shoulders. We took off, and in minutes we were high above the island. I looked back. "Goodbye dad." I felt a little guilty, but I knew that maybe Berk would be better off without me. We flew for a long time. The air became frigid and small pieces of ice stung my face. I buried it in mom's fur wrap. She glanced back at me sympathetically. "I'm sorry Hiccup. You'll get used to it after awhile." We kept flying, and eventually we came across a huge ice formation. I gasped. "Mom, what is that?!" She looked back at me. "Home." Cloudjumper flew through an opening, and flew down a long passageway, eventually breaking into a huge space. I gasped. There were dragons EVERYWHERE. We landed, and mom helped me off of Cloudjumper. I looked around in awe. "Dragons..." Mom put a hand on my shoulder. "They're amazing aren't they?" I could only nod numbly. Mom gestured widely around. "This is my dragon sanctuary. I've lived here with the dragons for fifteen years Hiccup, learning their ways, discovering their secrets." I looked up at her. "This is a lot to take in." She nodded sympathetically. "I know Hiccup, I'm sorry." I laughed. "Are you kidding? This is amazing!" My face fell. "And to think back on Berk we've killed them for generations." Mom put an arm around me. "You must be tired." I nodded. "Yeah. It's been a long day." She brushed my bangs out of my face again. "Alright, let's go home."
