A new family

Astonished, I put my other hand on his head. "Hey, bud." He smiled. Again, I was surprised. The dragon had no teeth! With his head under my hand we walked out of the cave. We walked over to mom. I patted the dragon's head. "This is the one." Mom looked a bit surprised. "Really? Not one dragon has gotten close to this Night Fury. Even I failed to approach him." She stroked the dragon's head. "He just showed up a few days ago from the Red Death's nest. The poor thing was scared out of his mind." I was about to reply, but the dragon flipped me onto his back. I laughed. "Whoa!" Mom smiled. "Would you like to ride your new friend to our next stop?" I beamed. "Yes!" Mom hopped up on Cloudjumper and hovered in the air above us, waiting. I patted my Night Fury's side. "Cmon buddy, it's alright." The dragon snorted and raised his wings. He gently rose into the air, and I gripped his sides tightly. I was riding a Night Fury! Mom slowly flew off, taking care in looking back to make sure I was okay. I leaned in next to the Night Fury's ear. "Follow them, okay?" He purred again and flew after mom and Cloudjumper. When we landed again I slid off the dragon's back and ran over to mom. "That was awesome!" She laughed and kissed my cheek again. "I'm glad you liked it son." She put an arm around me and led me to the cliff. "I'd like you to meet the dragon in charge of the nest." I looked up at her. "Okay, where is he?" We reached the edge of the cliff and gestured below. "Right here." I looked down and almost fainted. There, sitting in a large pool of water, was the largest dragon is ever seen. His head alone was twice the size of my house! I pointed a shaking finger at him. "Who- what- is that?!" Mom smiled. "This is the bewilderbeast. The alpha species. Every dragon's nest has a queen but he, he is the king of all the dragons." As I stared, the giant beast lifted his head and noticed us. He raised his head until he was right in front of us. Mom, Cloudjumper, and my Night Fury all bowed. I just stood there in shock. The bewilderbeast acknowledged me, then breathed an icy cloud in my face. When I opened my eyes my bangs and eyebrows were coated in frost. Mom stood up laughing. "He likes ya." I shook the ice off of me and looked up. "Wow..." I just barely whispered. My Night Fury put his head under my hand. I smiled down at him. Mom put a hand on my shoulder. "It looks like you've made a friend for life." I smiled. "Yeah, yeah, it does." Later that night all four of us were grouped around the fire in the house. Me and mom were having a conversation. I was telling her what it had been like for me on Berk, including all the harassment. When I finished she put a hand on my cheek. "I'm so sorry Hiccup." I looked down. "It's not your fault. It's my size." My Night Fury nudged me and cooed. I smiled. "Oh, right! Sorry bud." I held out a fish. He opened his mouth and slowly headed for it. I glanced over at mom. "Check this out. He doesn't have teeth!" We both watched as he got closer to the fish. Then, to both of our utter surprise, a whole bunch of razor sharp ivory teeth sprouted from his jaws and he snapped up the fish.
Our mouths hung open as he downed the fish. "That was incredible!" I scratched him under the chin. "You are one incredible dragon!" He purred and nuzzled his head into my neck. Mom leaned forward. "Have you come up with a name for our newest arrival yet son?" I scratched his chin and smiled. "I think I have." Mom smiled. "Well, what is it?" I hugged my dragon's head. "Toothless." That night, as we prepared for bed, Toothless was at my side the whole time. I laid down, and he planted his head on my chest. I looked over at mom pleadingly. "Mom!" I squeaked. "Little help over here?!" She just smiled amusingly and shook her head. "He loves you! I don't want to break that up!" I sighed and plopped my head back down. Despite the crushing weight on my bare chest, I smiled. I had a new family.
