Chris was running late. The bus was due in a couple of minutes, so he should not have been strolling along, kicking at the sand. Another day on the beach would have suited him fine. The weather was clear and warm, and he shot a wishful look at the waves rolling in. Pity to waste the day in town.
Hang on - what was that in the sand? Chris stopped to pick up a small plastic bag. Inside was a camera, a key and a few other bits and pieces. Checking the pictures on the camera, he found a picture of a couple of older people. Didn't they look vaguely familiar? That bus ride would have to wait for now, because he would have to find this couple, and give them their stuff back.
He wondered, about how long it have been laying there? It could be a couple of minutes, but could also be a couple of hours, but none the less, he had to find the owner. First thing first, is to ask, if any saw them, and if they know which way they walked. With a little nod to himself, he stood up, with the plastic bag in his hand, and walked over to a couple of young people he saw laying not far away from the spot. They were sunbathing, and didn't see him, so he silently cleared his throat to get their attention. The woman, took of her sunglasses, and looked at him bored. "What?" she asked him with annoyance in her voice. "I'm sorry for bothering you..." he started, "you don't say" she said angrily under her breath, "but have you seen this couple" he continued, like he hadn't heard her, and showed her the camera of the elderly couple. She looked boringly at the camera, and then sneered: "This is the reason you talked to me? Oh my god... No, I haven't seen them, and if I had I wouldn't care. Now shoo. Go away." "I'm sorry for bothering you. And thank you for your help, I guess?" he said, then turned around and walked away. Sighing quietly to himself, he continued his search for somebody who could help.
After some time, he found an elderly lady, which he didn't notice before, and saw that she actually also sat quite close to the bag. Determined, he walked over to her with a smile on his face. "Oh my! What brings you over here, young man?" the woman asked while smiling back to him. "Well, you see, I found this plastic bag on the sand over there, and I was wondering, if you know this couple?" he asked, and showed her the camera. After looking at the picture for a little bit, she suddenly said: "Ah! Yes, yes I do know them. Nice couple. Very friendly, yes yes. But why do you want to know this dearie?" She looked up at him with questioning eyes. "Well, I was just on my way over to the bus stop, when I saw this in the sand, and I thought that I should find them, and give it back." He answered, smiling. "Oh, how nice of you! Well then, I'll tell you where I saw them last. They were walking that way last I saw them. But that's about an hour ago, oh dear. I do hope that they're still here. Now, why don't you run along, and see if you find them?" She answered kindly, and ushered him along. Looking a little taken aback, he turned around, looked at her, and said: "Thank you very much. I appreciate your help a lot!" and then began walking the way the elderly woman had pointed.
After walking quite a long distance, the thought to himself, that maybe the couple already went home, when all of a sudden, there close to the water he saw them. Smiling triumpfully to himself, he walked over to them, and cleared his throat to get their attention. They both looked over at him questioningly, where he just simply stretched his arm out with the bag on, and smiled "If I'm not wrong, then this belong to you two?" The lady smiled at him, and said: "Oh yes, it's ours! I can't believe we forgot it!" and then looked at him for a while. "Wait! Aren't you Chris? You are, aren't you?" she asked. "Yes, that's my name. But how do you know that?" he answered, "well, you see, I used to babysit you when you were younger. Oh my. You almost haven't changed a bit. Apart from the height, of course." She said smiling. "Ah! So that's why! I knew I saw you guys somewhere when I saw the picture on the camera. Well, won't you just look at that? The world isn't as big as we think it is." "Looks like it's not." She said smiling, and then the elderly couple began telling him about how he was as a kid, and how much of a mess he made whenever it was raining.
Well, apart from the hardships of finding them, it have been quite the adventure Chris thought and smiled to himself. All in all, it had been a good day
