The light has been on for about three miles. He knew he should've gotten off on the exit but he was so close. His brother finally gave him a chance to be a part of the family again and invited him to his wedding, now he's stuck on some countryside road thirty minutes away from the house.
He turned the key again and received the same noise as the first ten times. His car is out of gas and his phone is dead and the charger won't work unless the car is turned on. He laughed and grabbed the keys and got out of the car slamming the door. He needed gas and there didn't seem to be a gas station nearby. All he's seen so far is abandoned houses and a church. He decided to walk up to the church to see if there was at least a priest or nun there who could tell him where the nearest gas station was.
He walked up the steps and opened the church door. A loud creaking noise echoed as he walked inside. The church looked in good shape as if it was still being used and not abandoned. No lights were on and the sun was beginning to set making it difficult to see. "Hello?" His voice echoed throughout the church. He continued to look around the small church. No one was here. He sighed and plopped down on the pew and put his head in his hands. He had one chance to be a part of his family again and he ruined it. He heard a floor board squeak. He jumped up from the pew and looked around. The sun was almost down and he was nearly engulfed in darkness. He felt something fall on his head and fall to the floor. He looked down and saw a red dot. He picked it up and examined it, a skittle. Another skittle fell and landed in his palm; it was green. He looked up and saw a girl looking at him. "What the hell..." he said to himself thinking he was hallucinating.
"Wow, swearing in a church. You might want to repent" the girl speaks.
"Why are you dropping skittles on my head?" He asked.
"That's the only question you have? Not a who are you, what's your name, why are you in a church?"
"What's your name?" He asked.
"I'm not supposed to tell strangers my name" she smirked. He rolled his eyes.
"Alright, maybe you can help me, my car ran out of gas and I need to find a gas station"
"I'll help you, on one condition" she said holding her pointer finger up. "You take me with you, wherever you're going" she said.
"I can't give rides to strangers" he said smirking at her earning an eye roll.
"Fine, I'm Nyla and I'm from New York" she said.
"Ok, i'm Danny and I'm from L.A" he smiled.
"So, Danny from L.A do we have a deal?"
"We have a deal Nyla from New York" Danny says with a small smile.
"Great. Hold on" she disappeared. Danny looked at the space where she was waiting for her to come back. A bag flew over the banister and another one followed. Danny stepped back and let the bags fall to the floor. Then looked back up and saw Nyla sitting on the edge.
"Are you ready to catch me?"
"Nyla wait-" she had already jumped. Danny acted quick and caught her just in time. His face was centimeters from hers. They looked into each other's eyes. Heavy breathing from both of them. Nyla breaks the silence, "thanks" she said and let go of Danny. She picked up her bags and reached into her back pocket and took out a bag of skittles. Danny shook his head at the girl in front of him and began walking out of the church with Nyla following closely behind him popping a few skittles in her mouth.
The two began making their way back to Danny's car. When they reached it, he unlocked the doors so Nyla could put her bags inside. She threw them in the back and reached into the side pocket of one of them and pulled out her phone unlocking it.
