One of my tired eye's squinted open. I slowly edged forward of my seat. I clicked my seat-belt button and the seat-belt sprung into action giving me a fright. My hand reached over to the door handle waking up the muscles in my hand and arm. I sighed out a cloud of mist and glanced out the window. It was so late. The streets were empty.

I edged the door open ajar and felt the cold breeze rushing through the crack in the door. The icy wind ran through my body creating shivers all over me. It's icy chill ran right down my spine. My nose slowly started to freeze as I steeped out of my car into the cold winter air. The concrete beneath my feet was memories of home. I looked up to the building that has enchanted my dreams. Home.

I heaved my bag from my car and edged closer to my house, waking up my feet as I did so. I stood in front of the wooden door that now seemed like a portal taking me to a world of sweet dreaming. The key fitted into the keyhole and gracefully spun round. CLICK! I pushed the great golden handle down and slowly opened the door. The outside lamp post spread light into the room and I could see my shadow lurking in the hallway.

I stepped forward onto our rough, spiky mat. Darkness loomed over our house. It never looks the same at night time. I walked forward into the dark, dark hallway. My eye's sharp and my brain alert. I could hear every little creak or the smallest sigh. I walked along the cold, hard kitchen floor listening to every creak I made. My feet led me to the backdoor in the utility room. The locked door strangely didn't have a key a key in it like it usually did. I reached for the handle and pushed it down. CLICK! My heart stopped. Everything stopped. It was open. I could only stand like a statue for all I could feel was eye's staring into my soul. I could see a man smiling an evil grin holding a knife just waiting to lunge at me. I could feel it digging into my back, stopping my breathing. I took a huge gulp, and I could just feel my warm, thick, blood running down my back and I could hear it drip, drip, dripping on the cold utility floor. I could feel it, my death. Who's there?

I took another huge gulp and tried to get my shaking legs to budge. I took control of my legs and ran, ran all the way upstairs turning my head round violently over and over again. I dived into my pitch, black room slamming the door behind me. My heart beat fast as I switched on the light reveling a hopefully empty room. I hid in the corner for a bit before searching for the unknown. I yanked open my wardrobe door jumping back as I did so, scaring myself a bit. I searched the room leaving no stone unturned. High and low. I was alone. The door was closed and the windows were closed. I felt safe.

My pyjama's were my armor and my blanket was my comfy, shield protecting me from evil. As I closed my eye's, cleaning out my fear I started to fall into a world of sweet dreams.

These day's I can sit in the dark not thinking someone is watching me and I know my wardrobe is only filled with clothes and old school bags. I'm older now but I'll never be rid of fear, no one will. At least I know some of it is gone and someday I'll be able to sleep alone in my one house or apartment. I'm still young so for now I'll keep my window open at night so I can breath and never turn off my music in the early morning. I don't want a knife in my back.
