The fire crackles and dances merrily in the fire place.
Usually I'd be happy about that you know something about the warmth and glowing embers, always made me feel safe.
But Tonight the fire seems to cast sinister shadows up the walls.
They're all staring at me and the walls seem to close in around me.
I grab the book laying beside me.
The crackling of the fire is getting louder and louder I start violently flicking through the pages of the book faster than I could ever read the words.
"Mum and dad had to go out tonight" I mumble fear rising.
The window pains rattle as small pellets of water fall from the sky.
"Great"I whisper to nobody
"it had to rain".
The sound of thunder fills the air making the house shake.
"Sally" I call my voice trembling.
"Sally where are you "I shout.
(Sally's our maid).
All of a sudden the orange flames from the fire jump out of the fire place forming into a huge dragon.
I dodge as the flaming beast lashes out violently, I scream.
I roll under its belly towards the fire place the poker stands beside it.
I grad the fire poker and use it like a sword.
I prod the beasts in the foot it bears its teeth and lashes out.
I dodge and jump one mighty jump towards the beasts chest I hold the poker towards its heart and prepare to strike...... Tap tap tap.
"Miss miss can you hear me miss " says Sally.
"What what happened?" I say confused as the beast fades away into my imagination.
"You called miss?" Sally asked.
"Oh yeah I um.... Oh do you know when mum and dad will be home?" I asked.
"No miss".
"Oh that's all then. Goodnight I'm going to bed" I said rising collecting my book.
"Goodnight miss " Sally replied.
"Night".
I tip toed down the hallway the cold floor boards creaked under my feet.
The night was cold as warmth I felt from the fire disappeared.
I stub my toe on a stone statue of a knight as I walk.
"Pardon me sir Oaksly " I mumble to the statue and do a quaint curtsy.
I remember when I used to play with the cobble statues I gave them all names.
I told them everything as if they knew or cared.
Now there real people somehow my crazy imagination has conjectured them into existence.
I reach my room and flop on the bed.
I look up and see my wardrobe shaking and rattling a growling sound was leaking between the cracks in the doors.
I leap up and run through the marble hallways my socks make me skid across the floors.
"Sir Oaksly there's something on my wardrobe " I say panicked.
Then an extraordinary thing happened the stone sir Oaksly started melting away revealing startling silver armor.
The slit were you can see the Knights face revealed a set of sparking blue eyes and a golden ringlet of hair jangling over his forehead.
"Lady Emily " sir Oaksly says (that's my name).
"Come let me sleigh this beast for you, I'll make it wish that it never messed with the most beautiful maiden in all the lands". He says removing his helmet.
I gasp sir Oaksly was the most beautiful man I have ever seen.
He has shoulder length golden, ringlets.
He has the whitest, straightest teeth I have ever seen.
He has a soft, kindly face with a broad smile.
I smile back dad is always working and me having no siblings means there's no man of the house no one who can protect or make me feel safe except him.
I smile back happily but am quickly cut off but a low rumbling sending waves through the grounds of the house.
