Courtney's POV

"Where can I find a decent place to sleep around here?" I started asking myself, but of course I didn't know the answer to that question. As the streets were filled with people high on drugs and rapists that could grab me at any second. No where was decent.

I could go to a homeless shelter, nah. They wouldn't have any around here.

I have been on the streets for about 4 months, sometimes I do regret leaving home since this place is quite daunting.

It's not safe here but it's not safe at home either.

So I eventually found a dumpster in a dark alley way after hours of walking around the city of Patrona. I lay down behind the Dumpster and made myself as comfortable as possible. The place smells like rotten fish and gone off milk, but what did I except, it's a dumpster.

I guess you could say I slept with one eye open, watching for anyone supcious that could rape me while I'm sleeping. I was lucky, no one did. No one came near, Except rats, but hey! Their everywhere.

After hours of trying to sleep, Sunlight peaked through the gaps of the surrounding buildings, it was morning. Time to pay a visit to Vanni.

I got up and made my way for the "rundown" gas station on Connolly street. Vanni worked there, her boss, Mr Watterson lets her sleep in the back since she couldn't pay her rent and had to sleep on the streets. He simply feels sorry for her. I told her once that he had a thing for her but she had no interest in him. Vanni has a crush on some guy (she hasn't told me yet) and I'm guessing it is not Watterson since he's in his early thirties and is already going bald and he is quite creepy.

She's the only friend I have, my best friend. She looks after me and steals food in the store. I am grateful for her in my life.

I walked down the grey pavement with my hood up and head down, hopping no one would notice me. This side "the North side" of Patrona was dangerous. There is drug dealers around every corner, murders, rapists and gangs patrolling the area. Patrona had two sides of it, "The North side" and "The South side". The South was the safe side of Patrona, I came from the South side, if anyone found out I was from the south of the city, I'd surely be dead within a couple of seconds.

Mayor Quincy, the mayor of Patrona. Who happens to be from the south side. Has a lot of power, he split Patrona into two, the North and South. Quincy invests a lot of money into the south, the South is modern and fancy and clean. The people in the North pay more taxes then the people in the south, unfair I know! He has borders between the two sides. He forced criminals and gangs to the North side, so there can be peace in Patrona (more like the south side). He even forced homeless people, people who were poor and even some working class citizens to the North.

Many families were separated from this, like Vanni, her mother and father and sister are on the other side of the border. She had been separated since she was a child.

Everyone from the North hates Quincy, so for years people have been trying to over throw him, This made a huge riot between The North and South.

People have been trying to break this system, for years, but all have failed.

The gangs here in this side of Patrona is the thing you need to watch out for the most. There is five major gangs here in Patrona. All had their leaders, and every single leader was a master criminal. The fives gangs are The ades, The Gares, The Shai, The lumos and the kempts.

Rocky lynch is the Gares' leader, Ellington Ratliff is the shai's leaders, Ryland Lynch is the "Lumos" and Riker Lynch is the kempt's leader. Rocky, Riker and Ryland are brothers, there used to be a fourth brother but who knows where he is. I think he's dead. The four brothers used to be one big gang until they split after a row.

They all signed a peace treaty, so they wouldn't harm eachother, but they can harm anyone else. They have clashed a few times, but other than that they come in peace with each other and do business with each other.

The ades are the most powerful group of all, they have their fingers in every organisation. Their leader is "The prince of Anarchy", let's just say, he is a ruthless psychopath with no empathy. He kills people for the fun of it but mostly to prove a point or something like that. He is the Patrona's most wanted criminal. He has escaped Patrona asylum about a hundreds times, no matter how many guards they hire and try to isolate him from the rest of the world. He always escapes.
Everyone knows him, you could say he is quite "Famous".
But everyone fears him, Even grown men fear him.

He calls himself Shor, it's his middle name. No one knows his first or surname, he wiped himself off the system. So no one knows where he came from or any personal details.

He is quite handsome though, dark brown eyes that could make any girl go weak at the knees and blonde shaggy hair, Muscular and a tall frame. Most girls I knew back in the south wanted to fuck him. They think he's so hot and badass. I'm like "really? He has killed hundreds, even thousands of people? Children too! With no regret. And you like that?."

I swear to god, They are as crazy as him.

About thirty minutes of walking, I finally made it to Connolly street. I walked down the street to the gas station. I stopped in my tracks...there was dead man lying on the side of the road.

He had a hole in head, someone obviously shot him. It looks quite gruesome.
I noticed a green guitar pick on the ground laying beside him. I picked it up and put in the pocket of my jeans.

I leaned in to get a closer look at him, he was dead alright. I looked around to see if anyone was around... Nope nobody.

I checked his pockets, I found $25, a pocket knife and a 3 mints.

Oh and yes, I do pick pocket because how else am I supposed to make a living.

I continued my way down Connolly, quite pleased with myself about my findings.

Wait... I looked back at the dead body lying on the ground, something familiar I saw that he wearing. I walked back and examined the crest on his jacket. The jacket had a gold and black panther on it. It looked famili...

"THE ADES" I yelped, I felt a shiver down my body.

The gold and black panther represents the ades. I looked at the man once more, he definitely has just been killed. Probably by one of the gangs, I looked around once more to see if anyone was watching.

Nobody, I could see,  but I knew someone was there. There always is.

I walked away slowly and eventually picking up the pace as I came closer to the gas station.

I ran into the store, Vanni was at the cash register, reading a magazine while blowing bubble gum.

"Court, where have you been" Vanni asked popping her bubble and putting the magazine down.

I smiled, "Oh, no where".

She had that tell me or else look on her face.

"There was this man lying on the road, down the street. I found some cash!"

Her face lit up with excitement "Ha, No way, how much".

I smirked "25 quid"

"You lucky bitch".

Hey, I know this chapter is quite short, (I don't write long chapters). This chapter is sorta an introduction to "Patrona" (it's a made up city) and a little bit of what Courtney is like, but you'll eventually find out Court's background soon enough. Hope you guys enjoy my new story, I'm really excited. Make sure you guys vote and comment some opinions and ideas. I love feedback💖😌💫
