Prologue
There I was. Sitting at a funeral I thought I would never attend at my age. Seeing my parents' cold, dead bodies being lowered into the ground nearly made me curl up and die myself. I shouldn't have to go through this. Not yet. After all, I'm only 14.
"Lux..." Alec whispered to me. I tried to respond, but words were something that I couldn't handle at the time. He wrapped his arms around me and said, "We'll get through this. Together." His sweet words were spoken in a way that made me understand why he was my best friend. I looked at his tender smile and soft blue eyes and I felt better. At least a little bit. It seemed as if time would go on forever in that moment... but forever comes to an end much to quickly.
