Once inside her house, I instantly wanted to leave. The inside of her house was an old antique theme, and naturally gave off a dirty look. Plus, there were plies of clothes covering every inch of the house. The coffee table in the middle of the living room was filled with all types of cups, bowls, and plates piled on top of each other, and the arms of the couches were the same exact way. Due to all the clothes on the floor, there wasn't even any room for me to get through the room.

I was expecting her to say something along the lines of 'Excuse my messy house', but she never did. She took a seat in the rocking chair across from the couch like there wasn't a problem. Once me and Miguel finally made our way across the room and to the couch, we uncomfortably took a seat on the plastic covering.

After thinking about how I wanted to start the conversation, I finally spoke up.

"Ms. Lee, I'm happy to announce that I'm very much in love with your daughter Christina."

As soon as those words escaped my lips, she looked at me as if I was crazy. Nevertheless, I continued on with what I had to say.

"Christina completes me, and I'm happy every day I get to spend with her. I know I've made mistakes in the past, and I don't have the ideal occupation, but I promise you, if you let me have her hand in marriage I will treat her like the queen she is."

"Are you serious right now?" she chuckled as she lit up a cigarette I didn't even notice she had in between her fingers.

"Yes ma'am," I replied.

"What do you see in that thing? Why do want to marry her?"

Miguel looked at her as if he wanted to smack her for what she had just said, and honestly, I did too.

"Ma'am, because I love her. I'm in love with her! Everything about her is perfect to me even though you might not think so. She's perfect for me and that's all that matters."

"Boy I think you've made a mistake. Christina is not what you're looking for. She's nothing special, believe me. My beautiful daughter Claire on the other hand, she's already married but-"

"Look! All I want is Christina's hand in marriage! The sooner you give it to me, the sooner I can leave."

I was quickly beginning to grow impatient, and pissed with every word she said. How the hell could she down her own daughter? The love of my life at that? I couldn't stand listening to what she had to say about Christina, especially since I see her in a different light.

She threw her hands up in capitulation as she let out a half chuckle, "Do what you want boy. If you want to marry the thing, go ahead. Don't be sad when you find out she isn't what you think she is."

"Thankyou," I sighed as me and Miguel both got up from the couch.

I was ready to leave, because she was pissing me off. I know exactly who and what Christina is, and she's far from how her own mother is portraying her. It made me sick knowing that she actually treated Christina that way, and Claire totally different.

Once back inside my car, I let out a long sigh. Me and Miguel sat there in silence before actually doing anything else.

"You alright bruh?" Miguel asked me as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Did you not just hear the way her own mother just talked about her?" I yelled out of frustration.

"I heard her, but look, it's over. Who cares about how she sees Chris. As long as you see her as the Beyonce of your life, that's all that matters. You the one banging her every night, not her mom. Now cheer up and lets go buy this damn ring."
