The Dreams

I walked past one alley and didn't think anything of it but as I walked past another on the grimy street I paused. It was obvious why; there was an ear-splitting shriek that echoed across what seemed like the whole city. My dad had taught me to mind my own business but my 16 year old self did not feel like listening to daddy right now. The reason was as clear as a pond in the spring time, someone needed help.

And I knew right away that I would go down that alley and I would help the lady that had screamed. The moment that this idea sprung into my mind I was frozen in complete fear. It made me want to travel back in time and crawl into my mom's arms with a warm cookie and a glass of milk. But I was on my own now, the old days were gone and it was up to me to save that girl. Fear was inside me and all I wanted to do was to run like the wind on a winter's night. But instead of giving into my fears I searched for a nearby weapon. My search was quickly rewarded as I found a loose pipe hanging on the wall. I thought it would be easy to rip it off the other pipe but it would not separate. Another scream came into existence, giving me the energy I needed to rip the pipe from its home.

At that moment I had put so much power into my arms that I flew backwards and hit my back. I groaned and sat for a moment feeling dazed. It was like diving into a pool in summer and hitting the wall on your way down. It hurt. But then I remembered the girl and jumped up with renewed energy. I dashed down the alley that seemed to never end, oblivious to the shadow creeping behind me. But as I ran the cold autumn breeze helped me along, the winters ice that had started to form did not make me slip and until I heard someone approaching, then I fell.

CHAPTER ONE

PART ONE

Waking Up

Summer

I turned around to see a dark figure behind me. Terror pulsed through my veins. At that exact moment I realized he was beeping. . . That didn't make much sense. BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP! "Summer!"

My mom's voice brought me out of the all too real dream in shock, drenching me in reality. "Wazz going on?" I said in a very groggy voice "house on fire?" it was the only logical reason for waking me up this early. "No sweet pea, but I have something to tell you!" she sounded excited as the words tumbled from her mouth. My automatic response was to get suspicious; two years of shit had taught me that. "Couldn't it wait tell like, I don't know, 12:00?" I asked, thoroughly annoyed now. "Sorry, but I have to tell you!" she seamed like she could be jumping up and down like a 6 year old girl. "Ok, ok, ok, what?"

Giving up on salvaging my sleep I sat up and looked at my trusty hello kitty alarm clock. I had had it for a long time, but right now it didn't please me. It was seven in the morning, and I did not feel like dealing with her. But she didn't notice my exasperated groan and started to talk in a high, enthusiastic voice, a grin sliding onto her face. "I'm going to Paris!" I had expected a longer explanation, but this worked too. "Oh my god really? When are we going?" I was actually really excited, I had dreamed of Paris for as long as I could remember. It was like it was the place to be, I knew I would go sometime but I didn't think now! A smile spread across my features. "No honey, I'm going!" She acted like she didn't even remember my life long dream, probably because she didn't. Ever sense she got a new husband she didn't even know me. I was surprised she had even told me. A bitter taste filled my mouth. "Oh." I said in a harsh voice. Of course, she didn't care or notice she was trampling on my feelings, she just babbled on. "You'll be staying with Jack here and you guys can have some fun!" Dread rolled in, taking me in its evil clutches. I looked at my mom in terror.

"Can I stay at Autumn's? Or. . . Winters'? Or Emily's?" They had been my best friends for years. The whole thing is extremely cheesy, like some kids fiction novel. But, I kind of liked it. It made me know I wasn't the only one with a weird name. I know Emily sounds out of place but her real name is Emily Spring, we all call her Spring but her parents like her to be called Emily. Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. I loved it.
