I ran outside without a look back. the air was cold, and the breeze didn't help at all.
"what are you doing!" I yelled over the wind to Niall.
he ignored my question and sang the chorus as loudly as possible.
The few people outside turned there heads and stared. I covered my face in embarrassment.
"c'mon Diana!" he waved for me to come up and I shook my head hiding my face also to keep from laughing.
I'm suppose to be mad.
he's so stupid.
I turned around and headed around the corner of the store where the group of men all turned there heads to look at me. the biggest one grinned, and my stomach lurched.
~Niall POV~
Singing the second verse to the song, I noticed Diana walking away and I shut up immediately frowning. didn't se remember? last week in science, we were playing truth or dare, and this was her dare to me.
jumping down, I turned down the music and followed her, finding myself running to catch up.
"Diana-" I gently grabbed her shoulder so that she would turn around.
her hands were covering her face and I gently pulled them away to see her silently laughing. I grinned.
"can't stay mad at me eh?" I said with a cheeky smile.
she looked up with a glare that was forced, as I could see her biting her lip. she burst out laughing, and I noticed the way her dimples were revealed when she laughed and they way she would roll her famous brown eyes at me.
God, she was beautiful.
"I'm laughing because you're an idiot, that doesn't mean I'm not mad." she said after she calmed down.
My frown was back. "so you think I lied about being busy."
"yes."
"what can I do to prove that I'm not?"
"tell me where you were." she crossed her arms. why was she so annoyed? I rubbed the back of my neck and sighed.
"I can't talk about it."
she sighed obviously frustrated, and started walking down the sidewalk.
"so.. what are you going to do now?" I asked hesitantly, following.
"I'm walking."
"where?"
"Jupiter, Niall. Im walking to Jupiter." she said sarcastically my stupidity.
"alright alright so you're walking home.. when I could just drive you?"
this made her stop. Diana turned to look up at me. "Niall, I was just alone at the beach at 8:00 at night, surrounded by mean girls with drugs, and almost kissed by a drunk looser. I'm not gonna trust you to drive me home, when I have no idea where you were before you picked me up."
I bit my lip to keep from laughing at the innocent way she spoke. "okay, I'll walk with you."
Her eyes widened. "no! no, I'll find my way back, I'll just take the bus or-"
"why would you take the bus when I can easily drive you home?" I interrupted.
she sighed in defeat, and bit her lip in thought for a moment. "fine." Diana declared, and started down the sidewalk.
We walked in silence for a while, letting out minds drift to different places, even though in reality we were standing side by side in the dark. I glanced at her one or twice but she looked as if she had no intention of starting a conversation. Guess that's my job.
"you know.. Zayns not a bad guy. He's was just drunk." I defend my friend and teamate.
"that's no excuse." she said, without a glance towards me.
I sighed. Diana was so stubborn.
We walked through the streets, and I basically followed. hopefully she knows where she's going. Looking to my left, it's just an empty street and to my right, a dark alley way. The placed smelt like garbage.
it was too quiet.
I stopped walking and grabbed Diana's hand so she was forced to face me. she frowned, and right then I missed her smile more then ever.
"I went to see my dad. that's why I didn't go to the bonfire."
she raised an eyebrow, "why was that so difficult to say?"
"because I haven't seen him since I was an infant."
it was silent for a while, before she finally said something. one word, actually.
"oh."
"yeah." I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly.
Biting her bottom lip, she looked around before continuing walking. Her brown eyes met mine. "what happened to him?"
sighing for the hundredth time that night, I thought about her question. it had been a while since I told anybody the basics of my childhood. partly from embarrassment, and partly from not meeting anybody recently I've become close with. my girlfriend Chelsey didn't even know. not that she cared enough to ask.
I took a deep breath, "my dad was a drunk. He only stayed with my mum and sister because she had a decent enough job to pay for all the bars he went to. Once he found out my mum was pregnant with me, he bolted. Only came back to gather his stuff from the house where I got one glimpse of him. I saw him tonight-" I paused with hesitation and looked down at Diana.
I saw her curious chocolate eyes, and her full intention given to me. i saw her long eyelashes framing her eyes perfectly. I saw her perfectly curled hair, I saw her perfectly pink lips, and tinted red cheeks from the cold.
this was Diana. I could trust her.
"I saw him tonight for the first time in 18 years, in prison."
I could hear a small gasp coming from her lips as she looked down. "I'm sorry." she muttered, and she didn't ask any questions. thank god.
"yeah it's alright." it was all I could think of to say.
"no really-," she stopped walking so id look at her,"I'm sorry for getting on your case about it. I didn't realize-"
"it's fine, Diana. I should've told you."
I grinned slightly. She did too. And as usual, my heart skipped a beat.
"so tell me about your childhood. it's your turn." I nudged her playfully, but I frowned when I saw her looking straight. I followed her gaze.
I was to distracted to realize where we were earlier. We stood in front of a tall building labeled, West Bennington Orphanage.
wait.. what?
"erm.. thankyou for walking me home Niall. I'll uh, see ya on Monday." Diana wouldn't look me in the eye as she adjusted her bag strap on her shoulder, and walked up to the big red door leaving me alone, and in utter shock.
