Day 1-
Maia Halliday sprinted down the stairs of her dorm and onto the bustling city street. She had woken up late, not a surprise, because she had been too busy thinking about the impossible, that someone would give her a rose on valentines day. Though she knew it would never happen a part of her still believed it could be possible. She sprinted past all the smoochy couples and into her rich, private sports academy. She stumbled up the stairs, still trying to tie the laces of her runners. Thankfully her best friend Aria was waiting for her. Aria was Greek. She had olive skin, dark hair and blue eyes while Maia had slightly tanned skin, sandy hair and green eyes.
" Hurry up! You know Mr Greymark hates people being late for class!" Aria yelled from the top of the stairs.
" I'm going as fast as I can! It's not my fault someone mysteriously pressed snooze on my alarm!"
" Does this mystery person happen to go by the name of Maia? Come on I missed out on seeing Raph before class waiting for your sleepy ass." Raphael was Aria's boyfriend.
" Well you could've woken me up."
" Sorry I didn't do my motherly duties, little miss six year old."
The two of us walked in the doors and into the stream of blue and navy uniforms. Royal blue shirts and navy shorts was the standard uniform for our sports academy. Not meaning to brag, but I was a skilled basketball player while Del was great at netball. We had become best friends when we were placed in the same dorm room for the year.
I almost squealed when I reached my locker. Taped to it was a perfect, crisp white rose with a small card attached. I felt obliged to scream and jump up and down but I held back since there were still a few students around.
" Ohmigod ohmigod!" Aria squealed " Someone got you a rose!"
" It's probably some stupid joke." I tried to push back my excitement.
" No way. Read the card." I took the card off the locker and read aloud.
" One rose, twelve days." The card was signed with a fancy red 'A' and a small xo at the end.
" I bet you someone will ask you put today."
" Hah, yeah right Aria. It's probably some stupid prank." We dumped our bags in our lockers and grabbed out out books for the first class, all the while dreading walking into My Greymark's English class.
" Girls. Late again. One more time and its after school detention." Mr Greymark yelled at us. I payed little attention to him, instead pulling my messy hair back in a low ponytail. I drew on my hand and doodled in my book until the bell went. I knew I'd flunk English but I didn't care. I was in it for the sport, not the boring classes.
As Aria and I walked to our next class Aria never stopped talking about the stupid rose. She finally stopped when she spotted Raphael.
" Aria! Where were you this morning? I got you a gift." from behind his back he pulled out a heart shaped box if chocolates with a perfectly tied pink bow.
" Ah Raph that is so sweet." she leaned in and gave him a kiss. Raphael noticed me and waved.
" Any luck this year, Miss forever alone." he winked.
" Nope. Still single, still care free."
" That's the way to go."
" Well actually," Aria interrupted. " Someone taped a rose to her locker. Would you happen to know who that someone is?"
" That is the one question I can't answer." he grinned.
" That and 1+1!" Aria and I walked off laughing.
Obviously, maths dragged. Though I was good at it I hated it with a passion. It felt like forever until the bell went.
