POV: Mikhael
"I want to know what happened?" We had been in Peters camp for almost an hour now and none of us had broached the subject of my sister. The plan had been laid out of our escape and I had already told Peters that I'd given my word to two other men, that they could come with me when I made my own escape. It had been three men but Scorp was dead, so that only left Billy and Kex. Billy was just a kid who had been kidnapped two years ago and thrown into Dark Eagle because his Dad was a banker and had refused to fund the Swago cartel. And as for Kex, he was imprisoned five years ago on the grounds of being a spy. If there was any truth to the charge, Kex never said either way. In a prison there was no morals or code of ethics. If you wanted to live, you had to kill your enemy. There was no room for error, you could show no mercy. And in the Dark Eagle prison alliances were formed for one reason or another, even if it meant just to live another day. And during that course I had struck a deal with a punk ass kid who in exchange for his freedom, gave me information regarding the lives of the prisoners and what happened constantly with the guards. And the other was Kex, if he had been a spy, he was very good at it. The man could pick and break into anything, forge a document and talk a rich man into giving up his wealth. He was my money man and in a prison, money was key to fulfilling the up most desires of any inmate. We were sitting in one of the clefts of the mountain down by the sea. It was a rough camp, no campfire just the few essentials of dried jerky, fresh water and a rain slicker. Peters knew how to disappear and blend in with the enemy, it was one of his best traits in infiltrating the enemy. And in Dark Eagle those talents would be called upon. But now Peters looked anything but resilient with sagged shoulders, I seen a deep sorrow in his stern eyes when he looked across the distance to the setting sun. "It was back in June on the 3rd." He looked over at me with a shake of his head. "It was her wedding day." Peters paused tilting his head down. "The wedding was held outside your parents country estate. There were over 500 guests, mostly political friends of your Fathers and a few close ones of your Mothers and of course Charles family was there." Peters was still staring down at the ground. "Charles was your sisters fiancee." Peters scoffed. "He was weak, Charles was. He didn't deserve her. Grace needed someone to protect her that day and he did nothing, hid underneath one of the tables like a little girl." Peters pauses with a look of disgust. "Grace had started down the aisle with your Father when they just came out of nowhere. Shots were fired and chaos happened. People started screaming, then chairs were being knocked over, people were falling on top of each other. Then some of the caterers had pulled out M4's and were firing at the guards, men were coming out of the trees." Peters exhales. "It was hell Mikhael, pure hell. I couldn't get to her, I couldn't reach Grace." I saw Peters broad shoulders shake and looked over at Gabe. He had a hard look on his face and his eyes were intense as he stared at Peters. The features that played across his face were usually the ones Gabe wore before he took a mans life. "How did they extract her?" Gabe asked. Peters met Gabes steel eyes. "That's the thing, they had a V-22 helicopter and just dropped in. It was over in minutes, they were fast and very strategic." Gabe nodded. "Professionals. Military grade weapons and air support, someone who had a lot of money and power set that deal up." Gabe said firmly. "I agree. They didn't mess around, it was an extraction job. I knew it when I saw them, once their feet hit the ground they headed straight for Grace. One of the men angled off from the rest and took a forward position to keep anyone from coming up the front. I ran towards Grace yelling at her to get down but I don't think she heard me. For some reason she took off running towards the gardens. I was gaining ground on her when she turned around and was picked up by one of the strike team. When I caught up with them I had a good aim on her captor when a sniper from the V-22 gave me one of his presents." Peters said tapping his leg. "Clean through. Asshole about damn near took my leg off. Doc said I blessed to still be walking. But he don't know what'll take to keep this old fucker down." Peters smiled bitterly. "What'd the men look like?" Gabe asked. "Masked, the unit leader was about 6'2, tan skin. He had some strange jade jaguar tattoo on his right upper forearm. As for the others, the one that took Grace was a little under 6'0 and more of a stocky build.." Gabe nodded. "What about the caterers?" Gabe asks watching the older man. "There were three that I saw armed and I did see one of their faces. It was a woman, probably mid- thirties, black hair, possibly 5'7 with a medium frame." Peters finished. "Did they have any casualties, anyone get hurt or left behind?" Peters shook his head to Gabes question. "No, like I said they knew what they were doing and all of them were extracted on the V-22. The damn sniper made sure of it." Peters looked at Gabe with interest. "Why?" Peters asks. Gabe was silent and looked like he was contemplating whether to answer the question. His jaw ticked and he looked like he wasn't going to answer. "I use to do special jobs for certain clients before I came to Dark Eagle. The people that you described sound like someone I might have worked with in the past. The man with the jaguar tattoo, he got it in Taiwan to remember the woman he loved that was killed during an air raid over there. Her name had been Jade, the reason for the color. His name is Rockson and he is lethal, also one of the best you could hire. He usually don't drive a death squad, only rare occasions. But I'm kind of surprised that he would be apart of this one." Gabe said. "Why is that?" I asked. "Well because Rock don't like dealing with women, I also think it makes him remember Jade." None of it made any sense to me, why would someone want to kill Grace. Ransom yes, our family was worth millions but to send in a strike team just to kill her, was a flawed plan. "Was a ransom ever asked for?" Peters shook his head. "Not a word. All communications were left open in case we did receive a ransom demand but nothing." Peters exhaled gruffly. "It wasn't until your Father received a package that we found out what had happened to Grace." I waited for Peters to further explain, but he remained silent. "What was in the package?" I demanded. "Your Father knew Mikhael, he knew. Before he even opened that damn box, he knew." Peters exhaled staring into the harsh sunset. "Your Mother was in her garden as usual, so your Father and I took the box into his study. I've never seen a man open a package with such care and when it came time to pull it out, he broke down Mikhael. I went over to the package and inside was a Chinese Ming dynasty vase. A very intricate and rare piece, I don't know art Mikhael, but this was expensive. As if the person who sent it wanted to make a point. I opened the top and..." Peters trailed off not able to continue. "Ashes?" Gabe asked. "Yeah." Peters replied gruffly. "Grace's ashes." I shake my head. "No, you can't be sure." I state. "It could be someone else, a sick trick maybe." Peters sighs. "No, we did DNA testing on the ashes, It was Grace." I get up raking a frusterated hand through my hair and walk over to the edge of the opening of the mountain face, leaving Peters and Gabe to talk. I stare up at the rock face where the edge of the prison wall is and look down to the waters edge. I try to think about the escape, the mysterious man named Glass, anything to rein in my emotions of losing my sister. Someone was going to pay for what they did to Grace, it wasn't an if, it was just a matter of when. And they had better pray and find a deep deep hole to crawl into, because when I find them and I will, I'm going to enjoy dragging their asses to hell by their throats.
