Chapter 4

- Mat

I woke up as usual around 6:15 and stayed in bed until about 6:30. School didn't start until 7:35 so I guess I was safe. By the time it had hit 6:30 I got up and went down the hall into the darkness where I bumped into my mom.

"Mom!"

"Oh my god! Don't scare me like that, dear!" she said. I get out of the hallway and she screams "By the way breakfast is on the table!"

I make my way to the bathroom and got ready. I washed my face along with my teeth and went back down the hall to my bedroom. I got ready with some black jeans and a flanneled white shirt and put on my reading glasses.

I head downstairs and reached my mom who was sitting on the table on her phone probably looking at the news or something.

"Hey, I didn't see dad's car in the garage when I came in, was everything alright mom?" I said.

"He just went out for a drink. Don't worry about dad dear, he's just taking a breather from work."

My dad wasn't always the greatest person towards the family. He'd usually leave me with mom if he had to go do something and that's why me and my mom have a greater connection rather than a 'Father and Son' bond. Don't get me wrong, I still love him. I just wish that sometimes he'd be there for me when there's problems.

I eat breakfast quickly while looking at the time which was 6:55. I went upstairs to go get my bag and my laptop. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, I was greeted a goodbye from my mom and I kissed her on the cheeks.

"Bye mom!" I shouted.

"Bye Mat!" and I progressed towards the sidewalk. Heading up the street I see Tom. He looks drowsy and really tired from far above.

I went up to him "Hey, whatsup Tom?"

I looked at him "just tired really"

"Seems you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, you alright?" I said while heading up the campus.

"It's nothing much, I mean.. I just forgot to turn on my alarm, that's all." Tom said.

The rest of the walk was complete silent and usually this never happens. Something must've happened yesterday. As we head towards the stairs I send him off to his locker and head to my locker which was right across from our coffee shop.

I figure maybe if I buy him a coffee frappe he'll be alright. I ordered a medium frappe for both me and him and I see him in line all drowsy.

"Here, It'll save you the time!" I smiled at him.

"Thanks dude, I can always count on you!" He looked towards the entrance and points over there where I see two chairs and a table. We sit near the entrance where it had a pretty bad ass view of further subdivisions.

"This morning we didn't talk much, are you okay?" I reckoned him.

"I'm alright, I told you I was just extremely tired, nothing to worry about."

"What time did you sleep?"

"Around 2:55 a.m"

-shaking my head- "I told you Tom, it was a school night, just drink up the frappe and I'm sure it'll cure your tiredness." I looked at my watch and see it's 7:26. "Hey Tom, we gotta go to class, I'll see you in lunch!"

He made a small wave and grabbed his stuff and went down the hall while I go upstairs into the Science departments. My first class was Chemistry and I hated this class. It's so boring and it frustrates me so much. Going up the stairs also frustrated me more.

"Rush hour eh?" Nathan says. "I mean, look at all these people heading up to class, this stinks. They need escalators."

"Doesn't matter bro, We'd probably break the escalators anyways." Nathan Willshire, the cool dude who all the girls admire. I gotta admit he's pretty attractive in a way. He comes from a wealthy family and has almost everything he wants. Pretty cool guy too if you're cool with him. Rumors have it that he does drugs but I can't believe it, he's just a rich jock.

We both head into chemistry together talking about some stuff for an upcoming project. I look over to my left and see Tom but disappears quickly. I rushed towards the door and didn't see him.

"Hey what's the deal Mat? Come sit down! Class is about to start!" Mr. Riley shouted. I go back sitting into my desk by Julliane and Isabel.

"Whatsup Mat? Who was at the door? Julliane whispered.

"It was nothing I guess.. I thought I saw Tom but I guess he wasn't there." I hook my head and faced the board.

Class had started and announcements were on.

"Good Morning Hillsburgh Ravens! Today is April the 27th and for our seniors, Prom is just right around the corner! Tickets start at $35 for single and $55 for a couple. Be sure to grab an external form if you're bringing someone from outside the school!"

I thought about prom but I had nobody to go with. Maybe Tom? Nah.. that'll just be weird. I tune out on the announcements because there was hardly anything to listen to except for sports.

Tuning back in on class and just thought another useless hour of chemistry.
