Forbidden Love

              And it was in that moment, those few seconds that felt as if they spanned an eternity, I saw her. Her. She was the only person I saw, in a sea full of people there was only her. Her beautiful hair, dyed to be the color of the bright blue sky. Her dress, to be as dark as the night. And her smile, her gorgeous smile, to be brighter than every star in every universe. To be brighter than any light, to be brighter than the sun. Her. Her beauty blinded me yet I still continued to see only her. How was this possible? To witness someone so glorious, so strikingly beautiful, in our little town. She was a rarity, a treasure, a gem in the midst of coal and dirt. Never before have I felt such strong emotions for someone in my life, to feel love. But this love was different, it wasn't the love you feel for a family member or a friend, but the love you would feel for a soulmate. A lover. A person who you would want to spend the rest of your life with. To wake up to see them laying next to you. To make pancakes and coffee with on a Sunday morning. To go on road trips without even knowing where you're going, yet you wouldn't even care as long as you were with them. To have a shoulder to cry on and a hand that fits perfectly with yours, like a puzzle.

           But this love could not exist. I will have to wake up alone. No pancakes on Sunday morning. The road trips will have to be canceled. The tears will have to fall on my pillow and my hand will be empty. The puzzle will remain in pieces, never to be solved. Maybe I'm Romeo and she's Juliet and our love is forbidden. Maybe I'm just a silly child who feels as though they have found love at first sight, unaware of what love really is. Or maybe, maybe I, us, are something else. Something beautiful, extraordinary. But this love, regardless of whether it is fake or real, I will never find out. Because where I come from and where she is now, love is only okay if you are straight.
