Chapter 2
Fourteen Years Inside
That dream...
Haven't had it in a while. With a sigh I stick my hand out it's safe haven, known as my blankets.
I reach and grab my dagger sticking out from the wall. I close my fist around it. A smile creeps it's way up my face. I love my weapons, they made me feel safe.
If only I had them back then. I shake my head, it's way too early for bad memories.
I sigh again. The dagger slips out of my cold fingers and onto the target on the opposite side of my room. A chuckle escapes my lip when I see I landed a bullseye.
I look at the time at corner my eye. 9:15. Damn, I needed to go to the market. I roll out of bed and hit the ground with a loud thump. I quickly change out of my shorts and singlet into my silver armor. That way I appeared like a low level knight, instead of a level 375 warrior.
I walk groggily into the kitchen of my small villa and open my inventory onto the food section to find it empty. I roll my head back and groan. Looks like I'm eating in town. Great.
I head out into the forest that surrounds the small wooden villa. I love where it was. Keeps me away from annoying villagers and NPCs'
Let's get this straight, I hate people real or not. About half way down the path to the town someone appears on my radar. I can notice things most people don't, one of the many good things about my blood.
My hand instantly goes to my sword. The person steps closer, right into my range. Stupid. I swing my sword so it's pointing at the boy's neck.
I mentally groan when I realize it's a guardian.
"Um, can you take your lovely sword away please?" He asks nervously. I notice the expressions on his face. I take my sword away and place it in my stupid hilt.
Great. Fake Cora mode coming on. I put on a huge, fake smile that looked extremely ridiculous. I seriously hate people.
"Sorry!" I say in a high voice. "Guess I'm just a little jumpy." I make sure to add a giggle at the end. He laughs.
"Don't worry, isn't everyone in this hellhole?"
Not me. I love it here.
"Yeah." I agree trying not to show how annoyed I am.
"Are you going to town?" He asks with a flirty smile. I nod, making sure to return his smile. "Can I come with you?"
Shit. He starts rambling about apples and god knows what. I use this opportunity to scan his blood and I hear his heart beating very fast. Then I noticed the sign of air flowing in his blood. Double shit. That means he's one of them; A legendary nine.
I know he's trying to trick me but I'm smarter than that. I hatch an escape plan. No way in hell am I going let him get me.
Wind type, that means he'll be able to run fast, I need to stop him from running for a while.
Then I see an opportunity. He reaches up to run his hands through his hair, making the arm protecting his stomach lift up, giving me access.
His eyes are closed. Now's my chance. I charge at him and ramm my armored shoulder as hard as I can into his abdomen. He lets out a loud groan and falls to the ground, clutching his stomach.
"Jess," he shouts, sounding very much in pain. I would search for this 'Jess' person but I was already sprinting away from him, leaving a cloud of dirt behind.
The only noise I could hear were my feet pounding against the hard ground and my loud breathing. Occasionally I duck under a branch or jump over a fallen tree. He was up and running behind me, I could feel his presence. He could catch up any minute.
An idea comes to my mind. I'm such a genius. I stop running and hide in a bush. He runs straight past me. My shoulders start to relax, but something didn't feel right. Something was wrong, this was way too easy.
Just then, a hand covers my mouth and pulls me deeper into the bush.
I let out a muffled scream. That Jess caught me, shit, how could I forget about her. She pulls us up so we're standing.
"Toby I got her!" She cries excitedly. I needed to get away. Rule 1 of being a Blood find an way out.
She was short. Very short. Maybe she was younger or something. The top her head was about half way between my shoulder and elbow. Perfect.
She hand cuffs me. It might stop my blood powers but it won't stop me from fighting.
I stick out my elbow right in her throat. She makes a gurgling noise and falls back into bush with a loud crinkling of the leaves.
Her small hands are released from me and I let out a cry of victory and run off.
"Nice try shorty!" I call behind me.
"I'm not short!" She calls out angrily. I laugh.
I probably look stupid running with my hands handcuffed behind me, but there's really no one around. Suddenly a blur of golden and white stops in front of me. I don't react fast enough and I crash into it, head first. There's a loud clonk as my head collides with the boy's armor.
I step back dizzily. My head hurts and my ears ring. I stick out my hand trying to steady myself, one problem I was hand cuffed. I end up falling backwards. I watch as the boy goes sideways while I fall. At first he looks shocked but, it quickly changes into a smug grin, the last thing I see before my head hits the ground. With a sickening thud, pain vibrates through my head. Then it all goes black.
