August-

"Ugh I was just joking... Don't go." She whispered.

A slight frown took over my face but I quickly turned it into a smile before she could see it. "You know I ain't going nowhere girl." I said, preparing to take my seat at her bedside again.

"Here you can sit with me." She said, pushing the covers to the side to create some room for me on the bed.

I cracked a toothy grin and stepped out of my shoes before getting into the hospital bed with her. Her body was so cold it made me shiver a little.

"You okay?" She asked, spreading the covers so that they would cover us both.

"Yeah I'm good, you just cold as hell." I chuckled.

"Oh hush, that's what I got you for." She whispered the last part but I heard her.

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. This would probably be the last time I got to hold her like this.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, I could hear her heart beat.

"Why didn't you call me?" She asked, breaking the silence.

"I didn't want to worry you.." I trailed off, looking anywhere but into her eyes.

"It worried me that you weren't calling me when you said you would. What if something bad had happened then-"

"Mel something bad did happen!" I yelled, cutting her off.

She looked taken aback by my outburst at first, then a look of concern overcame her face.

"W-what do you mean something happened? You look fine." She said before lifting up my shirt, searching for wounds I'm guessing.

I grabbed her hands and held them in mines, "Mel I'm fine, okay? Ain't nothing wrong wit me ma, I promise." I reassured her. "However, Wayno got hit wit a couple bullets..." I finished, taking a deep breath afterwards.

"Oh my God are you serious? Is he okay?" She asked with wide eyes.

"Yeah, he gone be aight. I'm actually gone go see him after I'm done see-"

"I wanna see him too." Mel cut me off mid sentence, trynna sit up in the bed.

"And you can, once you get better." I assured her, helping her lay back down.

She nodded her head and snuggled closer to me, laying her head on my chest. I ran my hand up and down her back as I hummed in her ear.

"H-has anyone talked to my grandma?" She asked suddenly.

I tensed up a little at the question, talk wasn't the word for what went down with grams.

She looked up at me with expectant eyes, "Well?"

I scratched my head, "Uh.. Yeah, I-i spoke to her..." I trailed off, looking anywhere but at her.

She grabbed my face in her small hand and forced me to look at her. "Where is she? Is she okay?" She started panicking.

"Yes Mel, she's fine, she out in the waiting room. She came in before I did." I told her, she visibly calmed down.
