Jenny's POV

My mom just had to die. She just had to leave me here to deal with the mess. She wasn't a horrible mother, and she wasn't my favourite person, but I didn't want her to die. I know Grayson is just trying to be the better person here, but he doesn't know what I need. I need to forget the pain I'm about to go through. If I stop to think about it I will crumble and never get put back together.

I throw most of my clothes in a suitcase, but I want to get new clothes. I need a fresh start if I'm going to be at a new school in a new house. I go into my mom's room and take the spare money she has stashed. I grab some jewelry and quickly get out of the room. I lock the door and go back in my room. I find some boxes in the back of my closet and put pictures and things in them. I pack whatever I want to take with me in my fresh start.

When I'm done packing I bring my stuff downstairs, and that's when I realize I don't have a car. I open the garage to find a bike.

"Great, how the hell am I supposed to get this stuff over there?" I say to myself.

I go back to my boxes and cut down on everything I don't need. After all, I do have all this cash to buy new things. I end up with three boxes and a suitcase, but still too much for a bike. I pull out my phone, but it's dead. That leaves asking Grayson for a ride. Just when I wanted to stay away from him.

I walk over to his house and leave my stuff outside my front door. I ring the bell and wait. Surprisingly Ethan answers the door smiling.

"Jen!"

"Hey E."

"What's up?"

"Can I have a ride to my dad's?"

"Yeah sure. Where's you car?"

"My car's-"

I pause for a moment. If I say being impounded he'll ask why, and then we'll get into the police and he'll be all caring too. A quick lie Jen, quick and simple.

"My car's in the shop."

"Oh okay, let's go."

"I just need to get my stuff."

I point over to my boxes.

"You moving in?" He says chuckling.

"Just balancing my stuff at his place." I lie

He helps me get my stuff in the car and drives me to my dad's. I'm a little older than the twins so I got my permit before them. Of course they wanted to drive, so I gave them lessons early in the morning so they wouldn't get in trouble. I think that's the last time I actually hung out with both of them.

We pull up to my dad's  hou- I mean, my house - and I unlock the front door. No one is home so they must still be at the station. Jesus, I left Luke there with dad.

Ethan helps me bring my stuff in.

"Thank you Ethan!"

"No problem Jen. Oh, and by the way, Luke didn't show up for tryouts but we saved him a spot for tomorrow."

"Thank you so much! Yeah sorry he left, he had to meet me somewhere."

"Is that why you blew off Grayson?"

"Does everyone know that?"

"He was pissed."
