Don't talk to your friends while you are away (or at least as little as possible). If you do, you won't live the whole experience and may miss your friends even more. It will also be pretty unpleasant for your host family, they'll feel as if they are not interesting enough for you. I talk out of experience. When my exchange partner came where I live, she was always on the phone with her friends and she was talking to them more than she was talking to me, my family or my friends. We all felt really bad. We were wondering what we could do so she wouldn't miss them so much. When she left I realized that I shouldn't have been worried about her. I lived my experience as fully as I could, it is her choice to miss it. It is up to you guys!
