Chapter 6. Visitation
I was now inside the hospital, with the scent of bleach and cleaning products dragging my nose down. God, now I remember why I hate hospitals. I went to the front desk and started talking to the dirty blonde woman behind the front desk.
"Hi, I am here to see Adrian Meddlock" I said to her and she nodded "Friend of the family?" She guessed and I started to grimace"Yeah, something like that..." Her eyes showed sympathy, for me or Adrian, I had no idea .
"Poor fellow, he's been stuck in there for a while without any visitors... I'm glad you came to see him though. Just put your signature on this paper and I will show you to his room."
I did just that and signed the paper, with my curvy and untidy cursive, she lead me to his room and stopped there.
"Well, this is as far as I go, I wish you luck with him. He is probably taking this whole thing very hard." She said and without a moment's noticed started walking back, probably to the front desk.
I opened the door and saw a figure lying in bed, listlessly changing the channel.
He turned to me and I saw his jaw slack, he dropped his remote and I embraced him carefully."Renora...is it really you?" he said shakily, it sort if reminded me of a little boy... how vulnerable he looked at that very moment.
I gave a small laugh "Of course it's me, I would never leave you like this" His cedar green eyes were sad even though he was smiling at me that moment, I could tell.
My mother always said I had a way of reading people's emotions, even when I was younger... I thought to myself. He let go of me and sighed deeply "Nora, I have something I need to tell you okay? You may not like it but please, listen to me."
I nodded at him once, for him to continue "It's not safe for you here. You need to go somewhere safe, leave town, go find somewhere safe-"
Against his wishes I interrupted "Look, I've lived here in this town most of my life, and you just want me to leave? I'm sorry Adrian, I know you are having a rough time right now but I can't just leave this place. I grew up here" Adrian sighed and put his uninjured hand on my shoulder.
"Renora, you mean the world to me, you are one of my very best friends, and I hope you know that"
Adrian looked down at the ground for a moment, gathering his strength "but the killer is still out there somewhere and if he finds out that I am still alive, he will not only come after me, but the ones I most care about too..." Too late I thought to myself, a killer already came after me yesterday, who knows maybe it was the same killer...
Who did this to Adrian and his family.
I looked up at him and drunk in his appearance, his dark brown hair messy and unkempt, his skin still as sunkissed as ever, but with an underlying hint of paleness as, well, and his forest green eyes remaining the same as they were from the day I first saw them.
Even though he was bandaged up, you could still tell he was pretty attractive.
What are you doing?! I thought to myself his family just died and you're thinking about how attractive he is? Get a hold of yourself Renora!
I silently agreed with my thoughts and glanced at Adrian. I nodded my head at him at spoke slowly "Okay fine, I will pack my things up and leave in a couple of days" I stopped and breathed a sigh "If that is your wish" I saw a small smile on his face and he embraced me in a huge hug.
I breathed him in, he smelled like mint and leather. I smirked internally to myself and started talking. "Look, I am here and will listen if you need someone to talk to, but it's your choice." I said gently, messing up his hair and giving him one of my sloppy smiles.
